On the bright side, they have the biggest available $$$ fight at 205 (until Silva and Jones come to realize the huge $$$ they can do) and they're going straight for it.
Sure, Sonnen is a guy with his recent record...but $$$ talks. One of the criticisms Bellator gets is they're so rigid on not doing rematches (Alvarez/Chandler).
Jones is gonna smash Chael by the way...assuming the fight goes down.
I love how the narrative these days is how UFC makes the fights people want to see, records be damned, weight classes be damned, while Bellator sucks because fighters have to earn title shots and treating it like a sport is bad for business.
Remember when Strikeforce would give guys title shots all the time coming off losses, and mma media and UFC fans would rip them and say UFC titles were more pure blah blah blah?
Funny how UFC does the same thing now, but they are the smart ones, and Bellator doesnt know what theyre doing.
I said it before and will say of again, the mma media and fans will not let another promotion succeed besides the ufc, never take them to task and always take shows at the other promotions
Call me a Sonnen mark but it's not the worst thing in the world to try and force feed Bones/Chael on TUF and get a good buyrate out of it. It sucks balls for Hendo, that's for sure. Plus, someone said Shogun/Gustafsson would be the fight to crown the next contender so who knows if he'll ever get that shot again.
As for Bellator, it's not about them 'sucking,' it's about what could be their biggest fight (could have been...Alvarez/Chandler rematch) and they chose not to do it. Their format is fun but sometimes it backfires (M'Pumbu/Wiuff the biggest case).
People shat all over Strikeforce when they booked the 3rd fight between Thomson/Melendez (I may have done so too initially). Truth was, it was the best option for TV and it's a guaranteed awesome fight. Doesn't mean they did bad because they didn't give the shot to Healy (who definitely deserved it most from a wins/losses perspective).
The one SF title fight I thought was terrible was the Rockhold/Jardine farce. The idea Keith had any name warranting that spot was ridiculous but I guess they had no other options aside from no name SF guys.

I'm dead serious. If anyone can bring some life and excitement (ratings) back into this dead series it's Chael Sonnen. The numbers for this should definitely be their best in years. Plus, it'll lead to a very interesting fight, I still think Dan has gotten jipped, but this is a solid fight.
You don't think the ratings are going to go up for this?? and you think I'm trolling... You have one of the P4P best squaring off against someone on a show that was tailored made for him. It's definitely going to draw a lot of interest. The whole TUF thing is dumb to begin with, but if you're going to do it I don't think you can find a better coaching matchup and fight than this.
