A humble challenge to my wrestling fan friends of VSN...(find a promo)

The challenge is to find a promo...or interview segment of some kind that would be considered memorable (for the right reasons)...that lasts for a duration of "one segment" ie: 8-15m of television time.

I was having a discussion with friend of mine and we gotz ta talkin about the new age of promos in the WWE and American wrestling in general...where you have these long ass promos at the start of shows and...they've been doing them for over 10 years now and they tend to fucking suck.

So, I basically can't figure any promo or interview segment that lasts as long as these opening promos on RAW.

So, lets see what we can find.

And, just for clarification...NO, The Rock and Mick Foley in "Rock, This Is Your Life" is NOT a promo or interview segment...it is on the same level as your token wedding segment...

In the meantime...feel free to post great promos or simply your favorite promos of All-Timez.

    Best promos get THANKS.

        A couple of 5m promos...we are looking 8+.

The interview that really got this discussion started was this one...

Almost 9m segment, and talk about a lot of fucking overkill.

How hard is it to have DDP come out, on the bike...unmask and simply say "Undertaker, MAKE ME FAMOUS!" and then walk out? Crowd popped huge at the start...but after 6m of unneeded promo, crowd was dead and sadly, so was DDP's WWE career.

Also, great jab by JR..."WCW star"...not SUPERstar lol. Gotta love Vince.

I believe your point is correct. It's hard to cut an effective promo longer that 5 or 6 minutes without losing some effect. And yes, the long RAW segments usually die because of this.

Here is the The Stomper's famous promo from Stampede, after Bad News (Brown) Allen attacked his son and turned him babyface. You kinda have to go back and watch the angle to understand why this is such a great promo. Plus, to this point, The Stomper was always a killer heel who barely spoke and was presented as a maniac. So for him to turn babyface, in defense of his son, was a really big deal, not to mention this was the first time anybody ever really heard him speak at length or be presented as a normal man. So it had a ton of impact, and the match did great business. The angle was so good, announcer Ed Whalen quit because it was to violent for him.

Anyway, here is the promo. Hope I did it justice with proper perspective. It comes in just under 8. The match had to be held at an indian reservation because the angle was so wild and bloody Stampede lost their usual building for a while.

EDIT - shit, this isnt even 7 minutes, because this is Stomper AND Bad News, total length 7.

Shawn Michaels' promo in Montreal around 2005 was awesome

The Shawn/Jericho feud was full of them

That is a great promo...I've seen it a few times. It is so great because its your classic "pissed off old man" promo...it came off real, not as a wrestling promo. Plus, the racial undertones are fantastic.

I'll give THANKS for it despite it not coming in at 8+. Gouldie's comes it at a hair over 4m30s. BNA's promo wasn't very effective like Gouldie's.

I love me The Rock, and he can talk like few others in the business...but he's the king of long promos that go no where and do nothing but fill that 15m segment. That promo is no different.

That last run by the Rock from that promo onward was pretty shit, too, FWIW.

Warner, thoughts on the Heyman promo? Do I just recall that being better than it was. I gave it a re-watch now, and its still very good.
