GSP cold on facing Silva (again)

St-Pierre, appearing on "Tout Le Monde en Parle" on 11/25, a Montreal talk show, gave his first detailed talks about a fight with Silva. In comments translated into English by Ariel Helwani, he said: "This fight is the cherry on the sundae. He wants to fight me so he can then retire. I would like to fight him too, but after I fight him and win the fight, what happens next? These days, yeah, there's a lot of money to be made, but I don't fight for the money. My motivation is to be the best. Like we said, to be the Wayne Gretzsky of my sport. So if I fight him, what happens next? It will be over. So yes, I want the fight, but I want to take it when I decide the time is right, not when he wants the fight to happen.

"On top of that, he weighs 234 pounds. I weigh 188. So there's a big weight difference. I've fought guys who were bigger. I'm not scared of him. It's just that I will take this fight when it makes sense for me. I just came back from an injury. There's money to be made. There are fights in my weight class, other challenges out there. And if I fight him, I will have to gain weight, while he will have to lose weight. And then afterwards, I won't be able to come back to my weight class. First and foremost, I have things to do at 170 pounds. When I am ready and when I want the fight, that's when it will happen."
Pretty obvious he doesn't want to fight Silva, and is not thrilled about the massive size differential.

We've beaten it to death, but I don't think it's fair to ask GSP to fight a guy who is so much larger than him. And like he's been saying for years, if he moves up, he's not going back down. That means no Diaz fight, that means no Hendricks fight, that means no unification fight with either Marquardt or Saffiedine. Silva has already cleaned out his division, GSP has work to do and three very interesting fights in front of him

Silva needs to pick on somebody his own size, move up, and face Jones. That fight make far more sense on every level.

Yeah, unless he's just toying publicly to get more money, doesn't seem he'll jump to take the fight.

Sucks but oh well. Hopefully Jones will come around after he dispatches Chael.

Wonder what this may mean for Silva in the interim. Weidman is out till the second half of the year, perhaps Bisping if he beats Vitor? Don't see him taking a fight with Belcher, Boetsch or Rockhold.

    Hell, maybe he'll fight Diaz.

Hopefully he can lay and pray against other people. It's fascinating to watch.

Silva is the guy with nothing left to do in his division, so if anything he should move up.

I guess you have Bisping in England (provided Bisping wins his next fight) which would be big, and maybe a unification fight with Rockhold would have some juice for hardcores. But that's it. Nobody cares about guys like Belcher or Boetsch.

Hell, Silva doesn't even have to fight Jones. There are still interesting fights for him @ 205. Hendo rematch, Rashad, Shogun.

Bisping would get his ass handed to him by Silva. It'd be Steroid Bonnar/Silva 2.0

GSP can make money against anyone with very little chance of a loss, fighting Silva doesn't do much for him except being the GOAT which guys really don't care much about, the fans over blow that stuff

And1 wants it because its his biggest payday and a fight he should win

I find the GSP pressure disturbing.

Silvas scared of Jones and Jones is both scared and a bitch. Ive knocked boxing for years for there inability to get Packy/Mayweather to fight. There are no interesting fights for either of those men other then each other. You would expect UFC to have more pull in matchmaking but clearly not as they cant make anything happen lately. Considering how Joe Rogan never brings it up in post fight its clear UFC is trying to pretend one is in Marvel the other in DC and it just cant happen.

I disagree here. If GSP really thought he could win he'd jump on it. If they didnt care about it they wouldnt be so terrified. GSP/SILVA/JONES are all pissing there pants and scared shitless of damaging there reps. Noone wants to be Werdumed into obscurity.

Jones hasn't cleaned out his division and is a relatively new champ compared to gsp, so I don't see how that makes more sense. Imo gsp is overthinking moving up and not wanting to move back down.
