Mike Ilitch Proposes New Arena Plan

    Rotoworld

Detroit Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch has proposed the Ilitch's Olympia Development, a $650 million project for downtown Detroit that would include a new arena for his team.

"It's always been my dream to once again see a vibrant downtown Detroit," Ilitch said. "From the time we bought the Fox Theatre, I could envision a downtown where the streets were bustling and people were energized. It's been a slow process at times, but we're getting there now, and a lot of great people are coming together to make it happen. It's going to happen, and I want to keep us moving toward that vision." The Red Wings current home, the Joe Louis Arena, has been active since 1979.

I hope this gets the go ahead because the Joe is a dump. I'm afraid I'll lose my shoes because of how sticky the floor is. Also, it'd be nice to have all of the sports venues near each other.

Thats the biggest bonus really. If any area of Detroit is ever going to become even some form of tourist destination, its the area around Ford Field/Comerica.
