I was at that Starrcade where Goldberg lost, 12 years old, decked out in a full nWo Wolfpack garb, I was so stoked when Nash won. Sometimes I wish I was young again and didn't know all the shit that I do now about the behind the scenes stuff in wrestling.

Nash tells a story that it wasn't supposed to be gimmicked and Goldberg just went full retard during that segment and busted through the window.

I would argue the Cruiserweights but they lucked into that and made fun of it while it was helping their show.
Problem is this...the two are pushed in two incredibly different ways.

Goldberg was just the streak because they never did anything with him AFTER the streak. His rise to the top and winning the title, when its all said and done was merely a vehicle to try and re-establish the nWo. He was super hot, and after he won the title, he was given nothing to work with and eventually was used to put the nWo back over when they lost steam. Because of injury and constant turmoil in WCW, he was never given the ability to re-focus and pushed after losing the streak.

So, I don't think Goldberg was JUST the streak...its just that is all he was because that is all they were able to do considering a litany of circumstances that came after. They had a legit star, its just shit happened where he wasn't taken to the moon.

The WWE is fortunate enough where they don't have those problems post-losing with Ryback...they just keep on, keepin on with him.

Yeah I totally agree. It's not Goldberg's fault at all but WCW had no idea what to do with him away from the streak. Like they did with the nWo, that's all they knew. They found a thing that got over and did it to death. In this case, one intersected with another and they decided nWo was a bigger deal.

I think he could've easily rehabbing immediately after losing the streak but instead they made him look like a complete idiot and within a few weeks was completely (for some reason) out of the title picture.

Well...Kevin Nash decided the streak needed to end, so he booked himself to do it.

WCW was nothing by politics and the green guy lost out.

Goldberg's biggest fuck up was tearing up his arm going full retard in a backstage segment. The goal was to use Goldberg to get the nWo back over with a new, smaller group of top talents (Hogan, Nash, Hall, Steiner, Bagwell, Luger...and add another one or two)...Goldberg was supposed to lose the belt, then go HAM on the entire nWo and get the belt back, setting wCw up with a super babyface and a huge heel stable.

But, Goldberg fucked his arm up and completely fucked up those plans and they were never able to come back from it.

Did they even give it time to breath though? By March, Flair had turned heel and Hogan went babyface during the First Blood Barbed Wire Steel Cage match (!!). I know I had heard about those long term plans but holy shit if they didn't completely go in another direction within a month of his injury.

It was all a mess, regardless. By that point, you had too many guys with creative control.
