Best of 2012 - Honorable Mention: Abroad: Part 1

After looking extensively at the very best of the United States, we switch gears and look at what the foreign market had to offer...This is Part 1 of 2, so be on the lookout for Part 2 in the next couple of days.

No superlatives...no flashy jive talk...just the matches...here you go...

    El Generico v. Kota Ibushi
    DDT Trilogy

Listen, I'm not going to give you a paragraph telling you what made this series of matches 'Must See'...just do it. It is some of the finer match-to-match psychology and storytelling you'll see. El Generico is one of world's top workers and Kohta Ibushi has become a workhorse. Just watch. It'll take you a while to get through them all, but it'll be worth it.

    Suwama vs Daisuke Sekimoto
    AJPW 02.01.2012

I'm a bit of a mark for all things Sekimoto. He's a short, stout fire hydrant that has nothing but insane hard hitting bouts. Suwama is a middle linebacker sized two-time former All-Japan Triple Crown champion. Everything hits hard in this match and both guys will walk like Earl Campbell the next day.

Yuji Nagata & Wataru Inoue vs Masayuki Kono & Minoru
    AJPW 03.02.2012

Unintentional humor comes in droves in this match. If you solely focus on Inoue in this match, you will notice him be swat away for half a match while Kono and Tanaka go HAM on Nagata. Oh, and Nagata dances at the end.

La Sombra (c) v. Volador Jr.
    FantasticaMania 2012 Day 2

Showstealing match at the NJPW/CMLL FantasticaMania show. La Sombra is awesome. He's one of the few reasons to watch CMLL and throughout the year, had plenty of strong matches against Volador Jr, but this one stands out. Video game awesome.

Kishin Liger & Tiger Mask IV vs TAKA Michinoku & Taichi
    NJPW Dominion 2012

A rare appearance by Kishin Liger. As you would expect from the participants, silky smooth and fantastic with a lot of focus on unmasking Jushin Liger. The result was a HUGE markout moment!

    Hiroshi Goto/Tetsuya Naito v. Masato Tanaka/Shinsuke Nakamura
    NJPW Dominion 2012

Dominion was such an awesome show. The undercard simply delivered. This match was close to stealing the show.

3/2/12 All Japan, never forget. That show fucking ruled. All Japan was well on it's way to promotion of the year with the Nagata invasion stuff and the outsiders holding all the belts, but then New Japan happened.

Yuji Nagata dancing to the New Japan theme and mocking All Japan was so awesome, even the All Japan fans popped. What a fantastic man he is.

Also, the Kota Ibushi vs Kenny Omega match that takes place in between Ibushi/Generico I & II should be added to anybody's playlist who really wants to get a feel for the entire story of those DDT matches. I get the feeling Larry didn't list it because it's coming later. Or maybe he didn't see it.

          RE: Sekimoto/SUWAMA

A couple of hoss's just hossing the shit out of each other. Wrestling misses this. I think we need more big HOSSES, like the days of Hansen, Gordy, Dr Death, Vader, even a guy like Dan Spivey.

Today, we have Sekimoto & Okabayashi, SUWAMA, Takeshi Sugiura of NOAH, Yoshihiro Takayama was one before he broke down, and when he's in there with a guy who will clobber with him, Sheamus. Sheamus vs Cesaro on RAW was a couple of big hosses working stiff, something you never see in the WWE, hopefully down the line they get a main even run vs each other.

There was nothing fancy about that match. Down the stretch, SUWAMA hits a backdrop driver, 2.9. Hits a lariatooo, 2.9. Another backdrop driver, 2.9. You gotta kill a hoss before you can pin him. I love it.

I haven't watched it yet because I still have the stink of ROH Omega in my mind. I'll seek it out tonight.

Omega had a great year. Not only for DDT, but in All Japan as the arrogant prick outsider who held their junior title and fended off challenges from all of the natives. His run in All Japan was one awesome match after another.

For as much as that nigga Leavy complains about wrestling every day of the week, he should be all up in these threads.

I'm handing him top tier stuff on a platter, fo free, and formatted.

No dude, it's way easier to complain about Ryback and come up with stupid nicknames for him then actually very easily watch the alternatives.

Instead of Smackdown tonight, he should watch the entire Generico/Ibushi Trilogy and perhaps cap his night off with some La Sombra...but, the allure of Cody Rhodes' mustache and being fed more might be too much to overcome.

I only see him on the Observer board. He laid low for a while because he got caught up in the RUDOS bootlegging thing when that all went down. He picked the wrong side in the fight and people turned heel on him.

Here are his 5-stars for the year, i'll post his ratings of other stuff if you want, just tell me what company you want to see or whatever:
