Cruz & Aldo have never proven themselves as even mediocre draws. In fact, nobody under 155 is any kind of draw, and if Zuffa could do it over again, they wouldn't have expanded so quickly with the smaller weights because they haven't been able to get these guys over to the public.
Rousey is a proven television draw. They are banking on the idea that this will translate in to PPV buys, but as we saw with people like Kimbo, Fedor, etc being a great television draw does not always translate into being a PPV draw. It really is two different animals.
If she flops badly, don't be shocked if the girls are history after they do Rhonda/Cyborg. I would limit her to TV in that case, because she's a better TV draw than a lot of the people they headline with.Comment

Nah, they won't be history. They can still fill a spot on TV or PPV co-mains (if we're talking the belt) to boost a particular card.
It's just gonna take some time to get the division over and all the women they'll be bringing along.
Unless certain people in power overreact if the buyrate is historically low or something stupid happens....

That's what I mean, if this thing bombs in epic proportions, I can see them dumping it. White was never hot on women's MMA to begin with, and it was Gina a few years ago or Rhonda or nobody at all.Comment

Everyone posts those and I have no idea why anymore. Those numbers are so pointless now for any high level fighter in the UFC. It's been confirmed numerous times that those type of guys earn more than what's actually reported. So no one really knows exactly what Cruz is bringing in.Comment

Cruz 20/20
Of course bonus, behind the scenes pay, whatever, Rhonda will get the same
Fact is, Rhonda is guaranteed 150k with a win, Cruz 40kLiquidrob's Top 10 Fighters Rankings

Flopped is too strong a word.
WMMA has never been a consistently big ticket seller. Meltzer said the only one that did great was Carano/Cyborg and we may never see a fight like that again (Rousey/Cyborg included). Early ticket sales are slightly down, the $$$ is slightly up....it'll even out by fight time.
The thing to judge will be the PPV # since it'll be the first time in MMA history where women are put in the top spot on PPV...really with nothing major as support (Hendo/Machida is a good fight but I doubt it means anything of note when the final days come and people are deciding whether to plunk down $50+).
As for Cruz...ideally, you'd have the top fighters making the most money. This isn't that rigid though, or else Chael Sonnen would be curtain jerking and making little. Sonnen didn't start making his big money until he turned himself into a star thanks to his promos. Ronda before she ever steps foot in the octagon is one of the biggest stars in the sport so of course she'll be paid more on a new contract than any of the former WEC guys (Bendo, Aldo, Cruz).
