    NHL 2013 trade thread

Not a big trade but it's the first one:

RANGERS SEND RUPP TO WILD FOR POWE, PALMIERI

The New York Rangers have traded veteran forward Mike Rupp to the Minnesota Wild for forwards Darroll Powe and Nick Palmieri.
The 33-year-old Rupp has no goals in eight games this season. In 565 career regular season games, he has 53 goals and 41 assists.
Powe has zero points in eight games. Last season, the centre scored six goals and posted seven assists in 82 games played.
Palmieri, who was selected 79th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, has 21 points in 40 games with Houston of the NHL this season. The 23-year-old has 25 total points in 87 career NHL games. He will be assigned to the Rangers' AHL affiliate in Connecticut.

Don't spend it all in one place
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

      "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

The Boston Bruins have traded goaltender Tim Thomas to the New York Islanders, according to reports.

BOSTON (CBS) — The Boston Bruins have traded goaltender Tim Thomas to the New York Islanders, according to reports

The trade was first reported by the Twitter account @Eklund. It was confirmed minutes later by ESPN’s Katie Strange on Twitter.
The Bruins will receive a second-round pick, either in 2014 or 2015.
Thomas, 38, is in the midst of sitting out the final year of his contract, which was set to have him earn $3 million. He announced last June that he intended to miss the entire 2012-13 season in order to “reconnect with the three F’s: Friends, Family, and Faith.”
It’s not yet clear whether he’ll be playing at all for the Islanders, but the trade appears to mostly be for salary-cap purposes.
New York Newsday’s Arthur Staple reported via Twitter that the Islanders “needed to be over the [salary cap] floor by [Friday], needed insurance against not being cap compliant the entire season.”
The trade will remove a $5 million hit from the Bruins’ salary cap.
Prior to sitting out, Thomas had won two Vezina Trophies, a Stanley Cup and a Conn Smythe Trophy with the Bruins.
          Well holy shyte!

I'm seriously hoping the Islanders hold his salary over for a year and make him play out the final year like they did with Nabby. I know they probably wont because they need the cap, but would just be great to see Thomas come back and have to play out his final year on the Islanders.

Another no biggie trade but atlas here it is.

KINGS ACQUIRE D ELLERBY FROM PANTHERS FOR FIFTH ROUND PICK

The Los Angeles Kings have acquired defenceman Keaton Ellerby from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a fifth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
The 24-year-old blue-liner has 17 points and 70 penalty minutes in 125 NHL games over four seasons, all spent with the Panthers.
The Strathmore, Alberta native was selected by the Panthers 10th overall in the first round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
In nine games this season, Ellerby has no points and 36 penalty minutes.
The Kings also announced that they have assigned defencemanAndrew Campbell to the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.

Another minor type deal as Montreal and Tampa Bay swap AHL goalies.

                      Tampa Bay receives
                      Cedrick Desjardins

                      Montreal receives
                      Dustin Tokarski
Not sure of this reasoning. Tokarski is the better goalie this year.

Blah on the Gagne trade, yet ANOTHER former Flyer that's been brought back (Leighton, Boucher, Fedotenko, etc.) If he's healthy I guess eh can help the 3rd line, but he's had injury problems for years now.
