I've always liked O'Neil. Hopefully he gets another shot before everyone assumes he's washed up.

Well he hasn't really shown anything to indicate he isn't washed up. A lot of Villa fans warned Sunderland what it would be like under O'Neil and they were right. No tactical risks, no squad rotation unless forced (they started to CM's at FB for most of the season ffs, and an abysmal transfer record. I think N'Diaye was his first non-UK based purchase since Brad Guzan at Villa. He almost never looks outside the UK for players, then his club ends up overpaying for players like John Carew and Carlow Cuellar. He once even scoffed at Falcao when he was rumored to be bringing him over from Argentina and said something like "we'll be looking close to home." Unfortunately, I think the game has passed him by and it did years ago.

I'm loving this. I see two scenarios; he either pulls Sunderland into modern day football (I think he's a pretty solid manager), or he pisses off the board by running his mouth and is fired.
