Jagr to the Bruins for two prospects and a conditional pick

Just a quick info on it:

The Dallas Stars have decided to trade Jaromir Jagr to the Boston Bruins for forward prospects Lane MacDermid, Cody Payne and a conditional draft pick in 2013.

Dallas will receive no worse than a second round pick from Boston. If the Bruins reach the Eastern Conference Finals this season, the pick will become a first-rounder.
Boston looking really really desperate at this point.

Would like to know your reasoning for them looking desperate, I don't think they gave up much of anything of value besides the pick.

I think Boston is definitely desperate. I just don't buy into them right now. They grind and grind and grind, and have some success. But the fact that they can't bury Montreal has got to be disappointing. I think they are good to go in the playoffs, but their success or failure will depend on a lot more puck luck than you'd expect out of a supposed contender. I'm not convinced Jagr fills one of the holes that they are suffering from, but I am definitely a little excited to potentially see one last hurrah for the Mullet.

I agree that Boston relies on puck luck and I don't think by any stretch they're the favorite in the East, but I also don't think their style of play is conducive to this shortened schedule. They play a lot of 3 games in 4 nights type deals, as does every team, but most teams don't play such a physical and enduring style like the Bruins. Teams who do such as the Rangers and even Vancouver to an extent aren't playing their best hockey either.
