Matt Mitrione Suspended by UFC for Transgender Fighter Comments

    Mitrione's Quote:
"He’s chromosomally a man. He had a gender change, not a sex change. He’s still a man. He was a man for 31 years. Thirty-one years. That’s a couple years younger than I am. He’s a man. Six years of taking performance de-hancing drugs, you think is going to change all that? That’s ridiculous.

That is a lying, sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak. And I mean that. Because you lied on your license to beat up women. That’s disgusting. You should be embarrassed yourself. And the fact that Florida licensed him because California licensed him or whoever the hell did it, it’s an embarrassment to us as fighters, as a sport, and we all should protest that. The woman that’s fighting him, props to you. I hope you beat his ass, and I hope he gets blackballed and never fights again, because that’s disgusting and I’m appalled by that."

Matt Mitrione may have won his most recent heavyweight bout in the UFC without an injury, but he won’t be fighting again in a hurry.

Bloody Elbow reports that the former NFL player and Ultimate Fighter alumnus has been suspended by the UFC for a “significant” breach in the promotion’s “code of conduct” on Monday, where he insulted transgender fighter Fallon Fox during an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour.

As such, the UFC issued the following statement to MMAWeekly.com content partner Bleacher Report regarding Mitrione, who called Fox a “disgusting freak” for fighting in the women’s division:

"The UFC was appalled by the transphobic comments made by heavyweight Matt Mitrione today in an interview on [The MMA Hour].
The organization finds Mr Mitrione’s comments offensive and wholly unacceptable and – as a direct result of this significant breach of the UFC’s code of conduct – Mr Mitrione’s UFC contract has been suspended and the incident is being investigated.
The UFC is a friend and ally of the LGBT community, and expects and requires all 450 of its athletes to treat others with dignity and respect."

While several UFC personalities (including color commentator Joe Rogan) do not believe that Fox—a 37-year-old, male-to-female transgendered athlete—should be competing with women, Mitrione is the first UFC fighter to verbally attack Fallon with insults on a widely broadcast show like The MMA Hour.

Mitrione will be suspended for an as-of-yet undetermined amount of time.

    transphobic?

Lets keep it real here...Mitrione ain't lying. I'm tolerant...but real talk, transgendered humans would, under any definition, constitute, a genetically modified freak.

tolerant - Showing willingness to allow the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with.

They can do as they choose...I say...live and let live. However, its a man trying to get licensed to fight women, everything else is window dressing. If a woman wants to take the fight, by all means, but to allow this person to fight against women by fully licensing them to fight in the state as a woman's division is disingenuous and makes you potentially liable for a lawsuit.

Calling a spade a spade is not intolerance, prejudice, -ism, or phobic.

freak - definition #3...one that is markedly unusual or abnormal.

A gender modified human would certainly qualify by definition.

If that is "offensive" that says more about ones issues moreover mine.

        As for Mitriones comments...

lying...check marking woman on a license application when you are chromosomally a man would be lying.

sick, sociopathic...perhaps the wrong verbage, however, transgendered males and females certainly lack what would be normal brain chemistry. Its not an insult, its biology.

disgusting freak...a matter of personal opinion on the qualifier, but freak...by definition...he ain't making it up.

This is just another case of liberal agenda pushing and the PC police making their rounds. The LBGT gestapo at it again.

This seems like one of those instances a rebel teenage douche says "I'm not being rude, I'm just saying what no one else has the guts to say."

Well whether or not this person should be considered a man or woman in the MMA world is definitely up for debate, but you can express your opinions in words that don't paint the other person in such a negative light. No one wants to be called a "lying, sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak." Unless you have proof the transgendered fighter is going about this in such a terrible way and not just trying to find his/her's place then you have room to be an asshole imo.

He just went about expressing his opinions in the wrong way and ended up being a jackass. Do you know the definition of discretion Larry?

All of that comes down to the PC police patrolling. Ol boy is being docked a paycheck for expressing an opinion on a pretty important matter in the sport, while you have a person trying to undermine the licensing practices by using the LBGT gestapo to get their way and any attempts to stop this injustice is being put in front of the intolerance firing squad.

Mitrione isn't saying this guy can't live his life as whatever gender he wants...he's just saying you can't undermine the system because you are a male. Sure, he lacks tact, but lacking tact shouldn't get you docked a check.

I don't like Mitrione or intolerance, but as I'm scrolling through this I'm thinking "what's the problem here?"

Sure it's strongly opinionated and he's phrasing things pretty bluntly, but uh, I don't see why it matters that he said this. Athletes should be allowed to say dumb stuff more often.

I agree with his general point as well that this person should not be licensed to fight "natural" females.
