Barbed Wire City: An Unauthorized History of Extreme Championship Wrestling

Reviewed this new DVD/documentary about ECW.

Overall I'd give it around ***1/2. Good look at the fans and wrestlers involved in ECW. Less a recant of history. Production was well beyond meh.

Barbed Wire City: The Unauthorized History of Extreme Championship Wrestling is unlike any ECW documentary before it. You have to understand this before you jump in or else you’ll be painfully disappointed.

Curious if anything one the documentary altered your opinion on the promotion in any way? Or did it really just reinforce everything you already knew and believed?

Can post on the comments too if you prefer.

Tod Gordon was an awesome get, it's the first time I've heard him talk at length about the promotion and it was cool. He brought a lot of insight into the early days and how much of a fly-by-night operation it was when it began.

Otherwise, it was mostly reinforcement. Axl Rotten as I mention in the review, was startling because he, of the guys interviewed, seemed to most understand how stupid it all was and how he shouldn't have to kill himself to get over. I thought he was the opposite, so that really changed my mind.

            Finally read this.

If anybody thinks we automatically kiss the asses of guests on VOW, think again. Fed ethers the video production of this thing. Went after them hard on the interview a few months back re:video production, too. Turned out to be prophetic.
