I'm fine with the signing, they needed more scoring and this allows them to trade on of Couturier/B. Schenn/Laughton for a top level defenseman. There's definitely another move coming, and it'll probably include one of Coburn/Meszaros in order to clear some cap space.

yeah... no scoring is not an issue for a team that was in the top10 in the entire league in goals for per game. Being in the bottom 10 for goals against is probably an issue that should be addressed.

Do you not see a problem with the organization from what you just said? The signing of Vinny allows the Flyers to trade their top prospects who they themselves traded for, and gave up a good number of things for. No, the Flyers really don't need to trade away COuturier or Schenn, they need to stop forking money out to every big name player that comes on the market, AND they need to stop throwing money at defencemen who clearly can't get the job done.

The team has 5 Dmen making north of $4M a season, and another two making over $3M. The 9 defence they have under contract currently make more than the 14 forwards do.

And you want more proof of a joke team, they just bought out two large contracts to give them cap relief, and then they go and sign Streit and Vinny, spending $10M and putting themselves right back where they were. And they still need a goalie to back up Mason, or one to start period. Oh, and have fun next year, because if I am a Flyers fan, I'm pissed we just signed Vinny and are going to lose out on all the prospects next year when we can't resign them and have to trade them away.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

              "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

Why would they trade Couturier? What cap relief does that bring? Mez will probably be dealt for a bag of pucks, but that's about it.

Well isn't the cap supposed to go back up and Kimmo will be off the cap. They will have at least 20 mil in cap space to get the young guys back.

Next year they are projected to have around 20 mil in cap, and I've read that the cap is supposed to even go up. So I doubt they lose the young guys.

I'm not saying trade them for cap relief, I'm saying if you can get a top level defenseman you could trade one of them. About the cap space:

"Don't listen to those sounding the alarm bells about how the Flyers won't be able to get Claude Giroux, Couturier and Schenn re-signed. The team will have nearly $11 million of salary cap space coming off the books next summer when the likely to retire Kimmo Timonen becomes an unrestricted free agent along with Meszaros and Bruno Gervais. In addition, the salary cap ceiling is likely to increase next year. On top of it, the Flyers have Chris Pronger's in-season long-term injured reserve allowance -- a maximum $4.91 million over the cap ceiling -- if they absolutely need it."

And they almost definitely have to trade at least 1 of those defenseman now. They basically replaced Briere with a better play for $2.5 mil/year less.

No one wants those shit bum dmen, so good luck trading them.

And let's just look at that $20M shall we. You still need a goalie and if the rumours about Timmy T are true, kiss $4-5M goodbye already. You just lost two defence, and since Flyers seem to be obsessed with this 'elite' shit, you'll blow another $5-6M on one guy. You still only have 13 players signed, and now around $10m to play with, and Giroux is going to want a $6-7M contract so basically you got like $6M at most to resign Schenn, Couturier and the other 10 players not currently signed to the team.

So I wouldn't be banking on that $20M as if it means a lot right now, only because you still have a lot of pieces missing or will be missing.

They might get a team trying to reach the floor, but that's it.

I think it was stupid adding Lecavalier. They should have taken care of their own roster first, then added defensive depth. They just saved a lot of money buying out Briere and Bryzgalov, and that's going to be all gone in just a couple days.
