Nani and Hernandez hurt. Kagawa unused. And Zaha not even on the bench.

Had the Chavs played with a real striker the whole game, things might been more interesting.

Kagawa is more understandable than Mata. Busy summer for Kagawa, and had only two pre-season games. He wasn't ready for a full game, but indeed should have made a cameo.

Last season United lost 1-0 to them in Old Trafford. A draw sucks, but not the worst.

Mata's not fit either.

I thought Schürrle looked good up top (not as a false 9 mind), certainly better than Torres (what an awful cameo that was) and Ba. Ramires and Lampard were the real problem, too slow and indecisive on the ball.

Torres holdup play was far better than Schurrle's. Torres offered a much better target up front, unfortunately the link up play between Torres and his supporters wasn't there. The game was stretched end to end and build up was lacking from both teams. Something Jose admitted in his post match interview. Schurrle is a great, great player, but he shouldn't be played up top... esp as a lone striker. In a league like Spain he could probably do it, but in England he is going to be pushed around far too much to be effective.

Edit- and I'm not saying Torres played really well or anything. Simply that he did better at what Chelsea needed from their striker.
