Dragon Gate "Kobe World" iPPV 7/21

7/21/2013 Hyogo, Kobe World Kinen Hall ~Kobe Pro Wrestling Festival 2013

    1. Super Shisa, Shachihoko BOY, Rich Swann vs. Kotoka, Super Shenlong III, Chihiro Tominaga - Standard opener. Swann is currently out of the major storylines, so he teams with frequent openers Shisa & the former Shisa BOY. Shenlong III & Tominaga are the young members of Shingo's rapidly decaying -akatsuki- unit. Kotoka is a personal favorite of mine, who always shows fire.

    2. Hollywood Stalker Ichikawa Bosou 10 Match Series ~Submission Chapter~: Hollywood Stalker Ichikawa vs. Yoshiaki Fujiwara - Comedy match. Stalker, the Dragon Gate mascot of sorts, will face ten submission specialists, starting with this match against the inventor of the Fujiwara Armbar.

    3. Jimmy Susumu, Jimmy Kagetora, Mr. Quu Quu Tanizaki Naoki Toyonaka Dolphin vs. HUB, Cyber Kong, NOSAWA Rongai - No backstory here. The Jimmyz facing a random pairing of a Team Veteran Returns dude, Cyber Kong the man without a unit, and the veteran outsider, NOSAWA.

    4. Open the Triangle Gate Champion 3 Way 6 Man Tag Team Match: Ryo "Jimmy" Saito, Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!, Jimmy Kanda (c) vs. Don Fujii, Gamma, Dragon Kid vs. Kzy, Mondai Ryu, Uhaa Nation - Three way for the Triangle Gate, which was originally Jimmyz defending against the Mad Blankey team, but Team Veteran Returns was added when Fujii & Gamma beat Kzy & Ryu at Korakuen.

    5. Open the Brave Gate Championship Match: Masato Yoshino (c) vs. K-ness - The resurgent K-ness challenges for the Brave Gate.

    6. No Disqualification Match: YAMATO vs. Masaaki Mochizuki - The no DQ stipulation was added after the main event in Kyoto. Tired of YAMATO's cheating, the veteran Mochizuki used some underhanded tactics of his own against him, which did not please the newly turned heel. So, here we are. No DQ.

    7. Open the Twin Gate Championship Match: Akira Tozawa, BxB Hulk (c) vs. Naruki Doi, Ricochet - Could be the showstealer. Four of the world's best right here.

    8. Open the Dream Gate Championship Match: CIMA (c) vs. Shingo Takagi - Shingo has squashed everybody on his way to a title shot, including Tozawa in a mere 6 minutes at Korakuen. CIMA has held the title since beating Mochizuki December 2011 in what has become a legendary title reign. Shingo has a real chance here.

This show will be available to watch live internationally on USTREAM for $25. This is their version of WrestleMania. Dragon Gate PPV's are typically off the charts good. This is the first time they have offered one of their "big four" events worldwide via iPPV. - http://www.ustream.tv/DragonGate

Completely lost my shit during Hulk/Tozawa vs Ricochet/Doi. Instant classic, best tag match of the year by a wide margin, possible match of the year, one of the best (if not the best) tags I've ever seen.

I gave nothing on this show less than ***, with the exception of the comedy match (NR). Just a solid, solid show, with one off the charts insane match.

Details of the press conference were published, and are as follows.

Mochizuki spoke first. He said that following the complete defeat of every Team Veteran Returns member yesterday, they met to discuss their future. They were ready to now announce results of this meeting. He called out K-ness, Shisa & Kotoka. K-ness was also beaten yesterday, while representing Windows. Together, the 2 units came to the decision to cease their activity and combine into one unit.

Gamma was shocked at the news, and not pleased one bit with having to align with K-ness. Mocchy wondered if Gamma was paying any attention at all yesterday. He understood that there were long standing problems between Gamma & K-ness, but after what happened to Team Veteran at World this was the best course of action. Gamma wasn't convinced, stating that Windows were also beaten, so why would they combine with losers. Shisa mentioned that his team won. Gamma told him that no one cared or remembered little details like that. Mocchy stuck to the point, and insisted that Gamma & K-ness shake hands. They remained hesitant, but eventually did so.

K-ness spoke next. He brought up Kotoka, and how it would not be proper for someone at his level of experience to fight alongside this new unit. His career was just starting, and he was just beginning to show his true potential. Today, K-ness was promoting him from his Window seat

The rest of Windows, that being himself, Shisa, & Arai, would join the former Team Veteran Returns and together they would fight as Ore tachi Veteran-gun, or We Are Team Veteran. President Okamura held a document signing to formalize the partnership. Mochizuki & K-ness signed it, making the union official.

Mochizuki also spoke briefly about CIMA and his current status. CIMA requested an extended absence to recover and overhaul his physical conditioning. He will be out from the 8/1 Korakuen show onward, for an indefinite period of time. Mocchy is looking forward to him returning and forming some powerful teams with their new Windows partners.
So no more Team Veteran Returns or Windows.

Also, on 8/1 at Korakuen it's -akatsuki- vs Mad Blankey in a losing unit must disband match, and Millenia (Eita, T-Hawk, U-T) announced their formation at World and will presumably be back from excursion soon.

So we are looking at another massive unit overhaul in the next few weeks.

Not a fan of the changes coming? I think it's good timing.

Reading the interpreted promos, it looks like they are going to focus on a youth movement. The core roster are all mid 30's and work a hard style. Nobody is showing signs of age yet, but at least they're getting ahead of things. More than you can say for 99% of wrestling promotions that are too slow to pull the trigger.
