Deadspin uncovers MMA "journalist" Jeremy Botter's internal Dana White memo

I've been telling you guys for years that Botter is a fraud, I used to get into it all the time with him over on Meltzer's site. He's the exact type of "journalist" that liquidrob has been complaining about forever, who bow at the alter of Dana White and are more concerned with "pissing Dana off" and losing access than doing their job.

He's the paid lead writer over at B/R, and he sent this memo to the rest of the staff, paid & unpaid. Say what you want about B/R, they have a ton of readers and hired "legit" professional writers like Botter, so they wield influence because they have millions of readers. And for B/R's top MMA writer to advise the rest of the staff to basically "Let's not piss Dana off, guys", that's pretty embarrassing.

And before you say "LOL B/R", be smart enough to understand that this is basically how every website operates if they want UFC access. I don't even blame Botter really, he's smart enough to know that his access to Dana is important to his career, so he plays the game. Not the route I would take, but whatever, he's the one who looks at himself in the mirror.

FYI, over on the Meltzer board, Mike Sawyer of Tough Talk MMA praises Botter in the thread..."Good advice". So you can scratch Tough Talk MMA off your list of bookmarks, he's a scared puppy too.

While some of it seems very ass kissey, I dont have a ton of problems with it ... that pay shit sounds alot like old timey pro wrestling, if you are making extra money because your fight was "exciting" ... read between the lines folks

Mike Sawyer responded and said he was being sarcastic towards Botter with the "Great Advice" comment. So I retract my dig at him. I'll leave it in the OP for posterity.

A lot of those were fair points tbh and just professional journalism no matter what you're covering.

The only part that would have me wondering is the whole issue about staying away from stories about Zuffa's money. Even if you have 2 or 3 great sources, you're going to sit on a legit story just so you don't get your credentials pulled?
