    Flyers fired Laviolette

The Philadelphia Flyers have called a news conference for 11am et/8am pt to announce that the club has fired head coach Peter Laviolette and replaced him with assistant Craig Berube.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, John Paddock and former Flyer Ian Laperriere are expected to be named Berube's assistants.

The Flyers are off to a 0-3 start this season and have scored just once in each of their three losses, including Sunday's 2-1 setback to Carolina. He was given a multi-year contract extension in August 2012, but the Flyers stumbled during the lockout-shortened 2013 season, failing to make the playoffs with a 23-22-3 record.

The Flyers also began last season with three straight losses and never got above .500 until the final game of the season.

Laviolette was hired early in the 2009-10 season after John Stevens was fired and he led them to the 2010 Stanley Cup Final where the Flyers lost the Chicago Blackhawks.

Laviolette has previously coached the Carolina Hurricanes - where he coached the club to a Stanley Cup in 2006 - and the New York Islanders. He has had just one losing season as a head coach and owns a career record of 389-282-25-63.

Also, his clubs have gone 43-39 in the postseason and he was the head coach of the United States men's hockey team at the 2006 Olympics, which ended with a loss to Finland in the quarterfinals.
And the worst ran organization in hockey continues its gong show. Common philly.

Should have happened at the end of last season, I don't see the point of letting Lavy have a whole training camp and preseason and then dumping him.

Nope, no point at all. It was either a complete knee-jerk reaction, or he had an extremely short leash. If it was the latter, just let him go and start fresh.

The Flyers organization is a complete joke. If you had that short of a leash on this guy to start the season, than you should of fired him after last season.

There isn't one executive more overrated in this town more than Ed Snider. The Broad Street Bullies have been gone for over 30 years. The last cup this team won was almost 40 years ago. Since then it's been a parade of overhyped coaches and players.

It's time for the old man to step away. It's time for a fresh perspective.

They let him stay because they didn't think it was fair to pull the reins after a short 48 game season and wanted to give him a proper training camp. But it was evident early on that it wasn't working.

Although, I will say, having no defence and no goalie isn't on Laviolette.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

          "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

The biggest problem in philly is the bonehead GM. I still cannot understand how he still has a job there.
