Quiet December, only two matches worth a rewatch 12 months from now that I saw:
Naito/Tanahashi vs Okada/Nakamura 12/23
Cena vs Rollins, Smackdown 12/29
FWIW I gave the tag 4-stars, which would be outside looking in most years of a top ten unless we are talking late 90's death period, and I don't see Cena/Rollins at MOTY levels either but both were great matches and are being pimped hard in some circles.
I think we can agree no great shows in December 2013? I guess only a few hundred people saw PWG, but the buzz wasn't at the usual level.
Seems like as good of a year as any to use a 13 month calendar next December and get things on a January-December schedule.Comment

Wrestle Kingdom wasn't 2013, but was a great show regardless of the impossible standard and a show of the year contender. Last four matches were all very good (had all at ****1/4).
EVOLVE 25 was a legit great show, with a great Trent Baretta/Tony Nese match (****1/2). Best Baretta match i've seen since he was cut, by far.
Chris Hero vs Ray Rowe from Inspire was ****, ****1/4 range. Hero vs Ricochet, same.
AR Fox vs Davey Richards I have at ****.
Jason Kincaid vs Americo on TCW TV this week was bananas. Have no idea when it was taped. ****1/4, easy.Comment

Alan tends to get....excited?(He hyped up a T-Hawk/Yoshino match last year that was good but hardly great), but saying better than any Tana/Okada is obviously attention grabbing. Problem now are my expectations are through the roof.Comment

"Mochizuki vs. Yoshino is probably my new favourite DG match ever (well, in Japan anyway as nothing will ever beat the Nottingham Shingo/Susumu match). Absolutely ridiculous. They pulled out ALL the stops. If you're the type to scream "Overkill!" then I reckon this isn't your match but for me and the 2,000 fans in Korakuen who were LOSING THEIR FRIGGIN MINDS this was something special. I won't spoil but certain things happen in this match that I'd never thought I'd see happen - probably stuff that's a bigger deal to hardcore DG fans though.
Masaaki Mochizuki gave one of the best performances I've ever seen a wrestler give in this match. AND HE'S IN HIS FORTIES!!!! This guy is a true treasure in Pro Wrestling and he deserves to be regarded as one of the best ever because he is.
I was lucky enough to get somewhat of an "advanced screening" of this but it should be available for everyone soon and when it is, you must watch it immediately."
OK, this will no doubt be a victim of expectations now, but holy shit I can't wait to watch this. I avoided spoilers, too.Comment

As a master of being able to acquire rare wrestling via the internet...what the fuck is an "advanced screening" of a wrestling match. Just link the torrent (if even on a private tracker) or tube file to watch it...no need to be weird, Alan and make it look like you have these very rare sources of acquiring rare and exotic wrestling.Comment

Maybe my favorite match of January:
Taiji Ishimori vs Hajime Ohaha, 1/19 NOAH
I think I like Baretta vs Nese better, but this was very, very good. Probably a better structured match, but lacked the drama of Baretta vs Nese, which is a feather in the cap of the Evolve guys who were working an opener compared to a semi final title match.Comment

Great match.
