Bellator 118: Warren vs. Silva (5/2 on SPIKE)

The penultimate show until the PPV is this Friday on Spike live from Atlantic City.

Unfortunately, bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas was injured in training last week and is out of action until late in the year. So, the main event Friday will be for the interim-title between the top two contenders.

    Interim Bantamweight Championship
    Joe Warren vs. Rafael Silva
-Silva is 21-3 overall and 13-0 over the past 3 years. Made his U.S. debut last summer in the Bellator tournament and beat Rodrigo Lima and Anthony Leone to win. He's finished 17 of his pro fights. Warren is the 37-year-old (at one time) Olympic caliber Greco-Roman wrestler (that plan was derailed in 2008 due to a positive weed test), he also fell short of making the 2012 U.S. team. Since dropping down to bantamweight in 2012, he's 3-0 including a pair of finishes in last year's tournament to secure a title fight. He was the 2nd ever Bellator featherweight champion, losing to Pat Curran in March 2012.

    Welterweight Tournament Semifinal
    Andrey Koreshkov vs. Sam Oropeza
-Winner meets undefeated Adam McDonough (11-0) later this year for the tournament championship and right to challenge welterweight champ Douglas Lima in 2015.

(Summer 2014) Light Heavyweight Tournament Semifinal
    Liam McGeary vs. Mike Micitelli
-Both guys are 6-0, McGeary the Englishman has finished all of his opponents

    Marcos Galvao vs. Thomas Vasquez
-Galvao is one of the top bantamweights in Bellator and bounced back from his loss to Dantas with two TKO wins last year. Now, he's fighting Vasquez, a 7-0 prospect out of Mississippi (14-0 if you count his amateur fights) in his Bellator debut.

Wrestling activity hasn't really changed, it just seems like it has because the MMA talk died.Aside from the pinned thread during RAW, it's really just me & Fed pimping our website.

I would say so. He started late, and a few of his early wins were pulled out of his ass.

Its an interim belt for a guy who won't be out long, no one see him as the champ, the winner of this has to beat Dantas

This is just a five round number one contender fight IMO

Silva missed weight by 2 pounds so the interim belt is only at stake for Warren.

Koreshkov is back in the finals off a sweet jumping knee knockout.

Warren beat Silva by unanimous decision, taking over in the final three rounds definitively. Silva, who took this fight on around two weeks notice and missed weight, was gassed by the championship rounds. However, he's still an explosive fighter and a hell of a grappler, but he couldn't box anymore and had nothing for Warren by that point because he was being ridden like it was an amateur wrestling match.

Warren still takes WAY TOO MANY punches to the head, nearly got knocked out here, was definitely stunned at least twice in the first two rounds. It's always been his biggest weakness, since he turned pro, he gets punched a lot.

Eduardo Dantas should definitely finish Warren when they fight later this year or in 2015. But, for now, it was nice to Joe Warren pick up another significant win.
