Odd move. Will be interesting to see what goes on here. I guess the end of insane contracts is getting closer to being over.

Weird that Mike Holmgren would be involved with the NHL.

Don't forget being aggressive in trades- Richards and Carter.

As for this move, the writing was on the wall when Hextall, long thought of being close to a GM, moved back to Philadelphia in a lateral move. I think their timing moved up with the Capitals letting McPhee's contract expire and knew they would be snooping around.

I think Hex was the assistant GM this past season. They still have some brutal contracts there though. Andy McDonald.... good Christ.

I really hope Capgeek is a little off but they have 64.5 mil already tied up in just 17 players. They still have Brayden Schenn to sign to his second contract and need defensemen. Coburn and McDonald eat up over 9mil.... wtf. Someones is getting Coburn in the offseason. I can already smell it.

Yeah, he took the same position. Long-term, I think that was their plan anyway, maybe would have happened next year except for the situation in Washington.

Hartnell and Lecavalier aren't getting younger, and will be getting paid good salary into their mid and late 30's. Streit is getting paid quite a bit too. It will be interesting to see how they can move those contracts now that newer rules are in place and you can't front load deals.
