Chael Sonnen Popped for HGH & EPO, Too (Retires After Positive Drug Test)

What a pathetic turn of events in the UFC.

Wanderlei Silva refused to take a surprise drug test in Nevada a few weeks ago, literally bolting from his gym when it was requested.

Vitor Belfort stepped up to take his place, the same Vitor who failed a drug test for elevated testosterone levels back in February (causing Nevada to ban TRT).

But, Chael Sonnen has failed a random drug test taken last month. The drugs, anastrozole (a breast cancer-fighting drug) and clomiphene (to treat female infertility) were discovered in his system and he will not file an appeal. Sonnen failed a drug test in 2010 when he tested positive for elevated testosterone prior to his first fight with Anderson Silva in California. Earlier this year, Sonnen said he would seek alternative measures to raise his testosterone when Nevada banned TRT. He will be suspended and miss the rest of 2014...he will consider retirement.

Mind you, Vitor Belfort still has not received a license to fight in Nevada, his hearing will take place later this month.

I will take the fight. No training, relatively in shape, and probably not the right weight, but I could last 20 seconds, give Vitor a highlight reel knockout for his "Best of..." and collect 200 grand.

Disappointing on so many levels. Talks trash about Wand ducking a drug test and then fails his own. smh.

UFC jobbers don't get paid 200 grand. More like $2 grand.

This has been one ridiculous series of events. From that car ride till now...I think we all got worked. Vitor will fail his test and Kimbo will fight Royce Gracie for the Intercontinental title by the time this is through.
Best reason to have a license.

Well this makes the 175 card less appealing but still worth the time to tune in.

Chael has retired, he announced on FS1. He won't play games coming off TRT, so he'll be able to go back on a testosterone regiment if that's what he wants.

Funny career. Was a solid but boring fighter famous for getting subbed in fights he should have won. Then he decided to make money he and copy old pro wrestling promos and it made him a money star for the UFC and Anderson Silva's greatest rival. Not so ironically, in what would have been one of the biggest upsets ever....minutes away from beating Silva by decision, he tapped out to a triangle, getting caught halfway through the fifth round. Then...he tested positive for elevated testosterone levels and was suspended. Then....he got caught up in a fraud scheme in real estate and had to cop to a plea deal in which he plead guilty to a felony. But he returned for the most profitable portion of his career and is now married with a child on the way, plus he has a cushy gig as a talking head for Fox Sports.

Only one of a handful of guys that walked the walk. He proved bar none he was scared of noone and took the fight right to the doorstep and chins of the 2 best PFP guys ever.
This should have been epic but blah on all counts.

Kinda feel bad for Chael to see his career cut short like this. Hopefully he rethinks and finds a way to compete again once all the dust settles. The whole TRT ban really seems like a knee jerk reaction to something that wasn't truly an issue. According to Dana there were only 5 guys in the UFC who were on TRT, yet the media constantly blew it out of proportion. What makes sense is to ban TRT for those who have tested positive in the past for steroids. There's no way they should be given exemptions. But, to outlaw for those with a legit medical condition? Doesn't make any sense. From terrible judging to shit like this, really makes combat sports look poorly managed.

News broke yesterday. Chael Sonnen submitted a urine and blood sample when he was subjected to surprise tests by Nevada earlier this month.

The blood test came back and showed he was using HGH and EPO, both banned substances. The shocking part of this is that HGH rarely comes back on drug tests.

So, remember all that talk Chael did when his initial drug test failures came back? How it was all about him trying to live a healthy life and become a father...well, that doesn't quite explain why he was using growth hormone and EPO (which is prescribed by doctors to treat kidney disease, bowel disases and effects of cancer treatments...so yeah).

                            Blood doping asshole.

Yeah that's probably it for Chael. Initially I was thinking he would eventually come out of retirement but now I don't even see the point. Biggest hypocrite in the UFC?
