"Melancholia"​

I've seen a few horrible movies in my day, but I don't know if any can compare to this. Acting? nope. Writing? nope. Explanation? nope. Meaning? nope. Theme? boring.
There was only one slightly cool part of the movie. It was when the planet passed up Earth, but then slight shot back around.


Here's the opening, if you can watch the whole thing then give yourself a pat on the back. But just know the movie doesn't get much more alive then this.

It may be business first, but that doesn't mean it's not also a sports movie.


I know what you're saying.....just like I wouldn't call Raging Bull a boxing movie, I wouldn't call Moneyball a baseball movie. They're both still sports films though, it's just second to drama.

Brit Marling​

She wins this not so much for the acting, but more for her role in putting "Another Earth" together. She's listed as just "co-writer", but since her real good friend was the one who directed, edited, and did the rest of the writing I'm sure she had a pretty big say in what was going on. Hope she's not a bust and can continue doing good stuff.

Definitely will be following what she does in the future, the only problem is that she's more interested in acting then writing:smh:. Hopefully she comes to her senses.
 
Felicty Jones, I'm pretty sure you didn't like Bellflower but I did and Evan Glodell directed, wrote and starred in that movie. Elizabeth Olsen with Silent House and Martha Marcy May Marlene. Another movie you didn't enjoy. Jeff Nichols the director of Take Shelter, a movie you probably haven't seen. Jacob Wysocki of Terri was extremely solid. Joe Cornish and John Boyega for Attack the Block. Fantastic first films for them. Joel Courtney in Super 8.

All of them pretty much became known or somewhat this year.

My winner would have been Joe Cornish for Attack the BLock.

Felecity Jones has been a real movie before.
Elizabeth Olsen I'm not a fan of as of now.
IMO "Shotgun Stories" from 2007 was big enough for Jeff Nichols not to be considered.

The other people I like, I'd still take Marling over them though. I'm more interested in seeing what she does in the future, then the rest.
 
Being in a movie doesn't mean its your debut. Marling was in a bunch of uncredited shit before this year, but I guess you can say Felicity Jones small roles are significant enough to warrant being past her debut, but I'd def say it was her American debut.

With Joe Cornish, the dude took 12 million dollars and a bunch of unknown child actors and made something special. I can't imagine what he'd accomplish with much more. The key for him will be genre change and if he can get past it. I am in no way saying Marling was a bad choice because I liked her in Another Earth and realize she contributed a bunch to it.

Well really I was only considering actors, guess I should've mentioned that. The fact that she did some writing gave her extra points in my book. Same exact deal as the guy from Bellflower, just didn't like it as much. If I was considering directing, then yeah I'd have the guy who did Attack the Block at the top.

The Gosling to my Buzzman​

Ms. Chastain did a shit load of movies this year. The main four being (Clockwise from top left) The Help, Tree of Life, Take Shelter, and The Debt. Obviously she has an advantage over most others because of the amount of movies she was in. But even with that she showed some pretty good range with the characters she played. Also she gets bonus points because her characters were my favorites in nearly all of the movies.

 
You actually watched Tree of Life?

As much as I liked Gosling, Michael Fassbender was the fucking man this year.

Very reluctantly, I did watch Tree of Life.


I saw Fassbender in Xmen and Jane Eyre, but still haven't got around to "Shame" yet. I've been stalling because it doesn't look like my type of movie.
