2009 Game of the Year (Retail Edition)

Guys are still going through their Modern Warfare honeymoon right now (which isn't to say it isn't a great game).

Exactly what this guy say. MW2 is winning by far. Shocking.

I'm surprised Dragon Age isn't on the list..I've heard nothing but good things about that game. I almost bought it today at Best Buy for $35 but figured I wouldn't have much time to play it now so I put it down.

MW2 is the only game I've played on this list. It was a pretty lame year for gaming for me. Two games I wanted, Conviction and Bioshock 2 both got pushed back.

So I guess its MW2 for me.

I'm going with Uncharted 2. That game was/is fucking amazing. It set the bar. Modern Warfare is a great game but it's more of the same. Unfortunately IW set the bar so high with the last game.

I just finished UC1 and am working my way through UC2 now, and I don't see how you can praise UC2 for being great and then say that MW2 is "more of the same". Everything about UC2's SP is pretty much the same as UC1. It's certainly not original or innovative, neither is the MP considering it's a straight rip of Gears of War.

If you want to say UC2 is the best, sure, I don't have a problem with that because it's a good game...but don't say it is and then say MW2 shouldn't get it because it is more of the same, when the exact same thing can be said of UC2...

We'll have to agree to disagree. Sure there were similarities between Uncharted 1 and 2. It was a sequel. But Uncharted 2 is 5 times the game teh first one was and the first one was a great game. The first one was a great action game but the second was like playing a fucking movie. The set pieces and action are unprecedented. Then add to that a solid multiplayer experience that the first never had. Besides competitive modes the numerous co-op modes are all amazing.

A rip off of Gears? Really? Because it has a cover system? Does Gears have the verticality that Uncharted does?

I'll give MW credit for adding Spec Ops which is a very cool mode. But the single player is shorter than last game and the multiplayer is identical. Sure there are new maps, weapons and perks, but it's still the same game. Except now you get 50 points for a kill instead of 10. So now when you're unlocking all these 1000 rewards you get a boner. Whipty-fucking-do.

As a complete experince Uncharted shits on MW2. But MW2 has a few things going for it. One, it's multiplatform. Two, some people only bought it and that's it (there is evidence of that in this very thread) so they don't have a fucking clue how some of these other games are. They just bought MW2 and are "OMGZ! It's just like CoD4, which was the best game everz! But now you get more pointz and new weponz!"

4. UC2
5. Ratchet & Clank: Crack in Time
6. MW2

Call me crazy, but MW2 just didn't do it for me like CoD4 did. I know that some of those on the list are sequels, but something about those above MW2 felt more fresh to me.

That is your opinion and it's fine. I'm not trashing UC2, I love it and am playing it every night, I just don't feel - having played UC1 and then literally popping UC2 in right after I finished it - that there is some huge difference between the two. Just my opinion. It flows better but the combat and platforming is mostly the same.

And yeah, Gears does have a vertical element to the online on certain maps. Not to the extent that UC does, but it is there. UC's online is just a faster paced version of Gears online. At least that is how I feel, having played both extensively.

Nobody is wrong, that's the beauty of it. Everyone has their own opinion and their own GOTY. Just because I say MW2 and you say UC2 and Seth says AC2 doesn't mean any of us are right or wrong. We should all just be happy there were so many great games released this past year. :beer: :shakehands:
