A guy like McCluster, Shipley, or Ford in round 4>Tate in round 1. Our defense was #1 last year, without a dominant OLB. We were killed by Manning, because of this. Graham, Kindle, Hughes>Tate. For what it's worth, and you're probably already aware of this, Carroll recruited Clausen hard coming out of high school - so it's not a huge leap to think he still likes him.

What school didn't recruit Clausen hard?

You really think Seattle thinks Whitehurst is answer? I was under the impression that he was just for depth. If they do intend to give Whitehurst a real shot, I'm so sorry. That guy was maddeningly inconsistent at Clemson, and has never done shit in the NFL, if they let that deter them from going QB in the first round, they're crazy.

I don't think Whitehurst is the answer but I think the Seahawks do. They wouldn't have pulled the trigger on a $5M/season contract for a backup QB to Hasselbeck and then Clausen/Bradford after Matt leaves in 2011.

This was a move made possibly because .. A) They don't like Clausen as much as advertised.. B.) They didn't expect Clausen to be there and wanted to cover their ass.. and C.) Because if you can find a good QB of the future for a 2011 3rd round pick, then you pull that trigger given the amount of holes the Seahawks still have to address .. most notably on the offensive and defensive lines, wide receiver, and in the secondary.

If Whitehurst pans out, it's a brilliant trade.. if not.. and Clausen becomes a Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco type QB.. well .. we fucked up bad.

But either way.. I do not think QB will be in our draft plans any more.. and I think if a Bradford type guy were to somehow slide to the 6th pick -- we'd use that pick as leverage to trade down.

Manning never beat Florida either, but something tells me Spurrier wouldn't have past on him for Danny Wuerffel if he was the Colts coach in 1998.
