Georgia, Alabama and Larry Brown's Mustangs all just lost a recruit who apparently had a top three of UGA, Alabama and SMU to... UAB.

I dug into this a little more today, and one of the reasons was he wanted to stay close to home, okay that's fine. But then he also mentioned he didn't want to go to a "big program" and wanted to help put his school "on the map" himself.

Maybe he was confused and thought this football, but Georgia and Alabama hoops aren't exactly big programs on the map.

Real talk...

Anyone else feel like this is the best talent college basketball has seen in a LONG time.

The top players are fantastic and proving it early (Wiggins, Parker, Randle).

You have deep teams like Kentucky (who still has a lot of young players looking to come around), Michigan State, Louisville, Duke, Zona, Michigan, Okie State, Cuse, Ohio State, Florida.

You have a lot of "good" teams that could upset anyone at the top.

You have a ton of top tier mid major types...VCU, Zags, Wichita, Creighton, Harvard, Towson.

This just has the makings of a real special year, wire-to-wire, to me.

The top players are fantastic and proving it early (Wiggins, Parker, Randle).

You have deep teams like Kentucky (who still has a lot of young players looking to come around), Michigan State, Louisville, Duke, Zona, Michigan, Okie State, Cuse, Ohio State, Florida.

You have a lot of "good" teams that could upset anyone at the top.

This just has the makings of a real special year, wire-to-wire, to me.

I'm not sure if it's the best talent in a while (considering 2008-2009's talent level may have been the best ever in college), or if the talent pool has bottomed out to such an extent that players are staying in school longer and developing more (sans UK and select others).

The last 2-3 years were exceptionally weak in terms of overall talent, which would point to why the Freshman class is stronger.

Whatever it is, its good for the sport.

You have very legitimate NBA quality players...there are probably 10 players who would have gone #1 in this past draft. I think the talent at the high end is as good as we've seen in CBB in a long time.

It doesn't hurt my argument that I thinking the depth at the top with the #topteams is legit. And there are a ton of very good teams this year. Couple it with a major bubble of mid-major teams that are legit themselves.

It just seems like one of those years. Even after less than a week, there have been some good games/showcases for the top talent.

Yeah, I don't know what JimLeavy is on, the first week of the season was great and this is going to be a fun year. I've watched games every day that i've enjoyed a ton.

One and done at least gives us a chance to see the likes of Wiggins, Randle, Parker in college. Which is awesome, if even for a year.

I do agree with you, but college would miss out on a ton, but its purely selfish on my part. It is rare to see a Carmelo, for example, go to college and give us a GOAT year if they had the opportunity to go to the pros.

I think the NBA loves 1-and-done, too...it weeds out a lot of potential busts...just look at a guy like Poythress...would have been a Top 7 guy if he came out of HS...now, he's more like a second rounder, and rightfully so.

I was just clarifying that this is what you meant by the baseball system. I'm neither for it or against it but it's probably better than the current system.

Eastern Michigan 69, Robert Morris 64

- RMU was obviously looking ahead to Kentucky on Sunday.
- Tough match-up for RMU from the get-go with EMU's length (starting frontcourt was 6'9/6'11/7' compared to 6'5/6'5/6'8). The Eagles' height bothered the Colonials all night and never let them get in much of a rhythm. It also played a part in the foul discrepancy, as EMU was 28-42 from the charity stripe in comparison to RMU's 9-14 effort.
- The quick turnaround also played some part into RMU's subpar play. There wasn't as much energy out there after Tuesday's exhausting comeback victory at Lafayette, whereas EMU was coming off two yawners against D2 squads.
- EMU's not a bad team. They feature a few BCS-level transfers and - like I said before - they have length and athleticism. Disappointing loss, sure, but not a bad one.

Duke/East Carolina was really good. Bryant Stith's kid is a freshman C on ECU, and he looked good. Parker's biggest contribution down the stretch for Duke was defensively. He's some player.

St John's/Bucknell was a good game, too. SJU squeaked by. Looks like Lavin has another overhyped SJU team this year. They are always "the most talented team in the Big East" with his collection of transfers, second tier one & done's, and street ballers who barely qualify, and then they proceed to do nothing. In four years Lavin has one NCAA bid, and two 11th place Big East finishes.

Memphis played a good team (Okie St) and looked like poop. Act surprised. Pastner is the most overrated coach in the country. OSU put up 100+. Ex-Missouri G Michael Dixon transferred to Memphis, and if you don't know much about Dixon, just picture every other Memphis player under Pastner. Out of control, no discipline, bad shot selection, thinks he's playing in an And 1 game.

Butler beat Vandy at home. Go Big East. That's a tough building to win in. Butler was supposedly going to have a down year, I don't buy it.

Jahii Carson put up 40 for Arizona St, who knocked off UNLV.

Arizona killed Rhode Island, who stinks.

The season is 10 days old, and has already been awesome.
