I doubt anything happens here, no one was willing to meet Washington's demands for Dunn at the deadline, I doubt that has changed much.

I like Dunn.

100 R's, 100 RBI, 40 HR, 100 BB's every year. Can't hide him in the field, but he's one of the most underated offensive players around.

Everyone should like Dunn. He's an unbelievably underrated offensive player, he's been tremendously overrated for years now.

And just because he's claimed doesn't really mean anything.

All it means is the Nationals could throw him onto the other team for nothing (no reason they'd do that) or attempt to make a deal with that team (possibly try that, but they don't have any leverage and all players traded must be on the 40-man).

It's nothing. Guys get claimed all the time, every year.

Of course he is. Who cares though? All the dude does is excel at creating runs and not make outs. An NL team probably shouldn't be too attracted to him although if stuck at 1B you can limit his damage.

Washington Nationals slugger Adam Dunn was claimed on trade waivers today, one major league source told FOXSports.com.

The identity of the club is not known. The news lessens the likelihood that Dunn will be dealt this month.

If the Nationals wish to trade Dunn, they will have to do so while negotiating with only one club, between now and Monday afternoon. It will be difficult for the Nationals to get what they deem to be fair value in a one-on-one negotiation. They were unable to reach an agreement last month, when it was possible to talk with 29 other clubs.

Had Dunn been unclaimed, the Nationals could have discussed trade proposals with the 29 other teams.

Today’s development does not come as a surprise. Dunn, a prospective free agent, is due to earn roughly $4 million over the remainder of this season. It was highly likely that another team valued him at that dollar figure. The waiver claim is evidence of that.

Trade waivers are procedural, so this in no way indicates that the Nationals are eager to move Dunn. He is still on the active roster.

Dunn is batting .277/.365/.578 with a league-best 28 home runs and 71 RBIs.

however dont' think it will happen

personally if its is a rent a player situation I may not hate it too much he will finally have guys who can drive him in around him when he gets on based.

Bruce is struggling with the bat, but Gomes is too good this year to platoon. Plus, Gomes & Dunn in the corners hurts defensively. Bruce is an A+ defensive player, Gomes is weak. And Dickerson will be back soon, although I think I like Heisey better.

I'm torn, because I love the donkey, but it would really screw with chemistry.

Maybe chemistry was a bad word choice.

It would screw with everyones role, the batting order, etc. Things are going welll, I'm not sure this is the right shake up. But id be lying if I said I wouldn't be excited if they got him.

Okay I see what you mean. I thought you were pointing to clubhouse "chemistry" and all that crap.

No, I totally know what you mean role wise especially defensively. The Reds have been a + defensive team all year and there's not many places to hide Adam Dunn to keep you +. LF he probably does the least damage, possibly 1B (Votto played some LF in AAA)... I dunno. It's a tough move because it shakes a lot of things up, but you get a world class offensive player.

In the end, I think this is just Rizzo hoping someone gets stupid and overpays but I don't think he gets moved.

Dunn isnt even that much of a downgrade from Gomes in LF. Gomes plays hard and gets to more balls, but he's a liability, too.

The HUGE downgrade would be Gomes playing in place of Bruce in RF. Plus, Bruce, a notorious streaky hitter, has been slumping for so long, that he's due to get hot just at the right time.

I'm torn, but it probably won't happen anyway. Plus there is the issue of what the Reds would have to give up. Hopefully it would be someobody like Matt Maloney or Sam LeCure. Something tells me Chris Heisey would be part of this. He'd be expendable if Bruce became the fourth OF anyway.

yeah your concern is the same as mine, Defense in the OF would go to shit in a hurry. but having him in the lineup would be huge. I am torn as well, i supose as long as it just for this year and we don't have to give up too much for him I won't gripe
