Just a thing about the police getting involved.

Montreal police have already stated that they will do nothing in this incident as no criminal offence has taken place. They have also asked people to stop calling in reporting a crime and may also start filling charges against people for false claims if it continues.

This incident (like the others that have happened before) shows that arena designers need to figure out a way to get rid of the glass expansions that are in between the benches or figure something else out. I honestly don't think extra padding will help unless its some sort of foam or something that absorbs the energy that is going to be transferred to it.

My opinion is this was an interference penalty and chara had no intent on injurying him and as such should not have been suspended.

Because what Chara did would be acceptable anywhere else on the ice. Well I mean, it's a penalty yes, but still acceptable.

It's just a matter of the arena design that caused his typical hockey play to become a serious injury.



IMO, the league needs to suspend for plays resulting in head trauma to cut down on it. I don't agree that all instances involving head injury are deserving, but it needs to be cut and dry. They cannot continue to rule based on what they believe the "intent" is, because it's fucking impossible and utterly stupid that they do it.

Chara should be suspended because of the head injury, but not because of what he did. However, this is my stance and not the leagues, so I understand why he isn't.


I don't agree that injuries should define suspensions, so this is a bit hypocritical, but there doesn't seem to be any other solution that will make the players show more respect on the ice (not that I feel this instance was disrespectful, just bad luck)

Because if it's anywhere else on the ice the Habs get a 2 minute powerplay and Chara plays the rest of the game. You can't suspend a player on the grounds of being in the wrong place. You can suspend him on the grounds of dangerous play, but you'd have to prove that's dangerous play, which it's not because it's a minor infringment which just so happens to occur in a collosally dangerous grey area of the rink.
