Sypnosis:

When San Francisco Police Department Det. Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones) is assigned to a grisly homicide case, a fingerprint leads her to Jack Sylvane (guest star Jeffrey Pierce), a former Alcatraz inmate who died decades ago. Given her family history—both her grandfather and surrogate uncle, Ray Archer (Robert Forster), were guards at the prison—Madsen's interest is immediately piqued, and once the enigmatic, knows-everything-but-tells-nothing government agent Emerson Hauser (Sam Neill) tries to impede her investigation, she is doggedly committed. Madsen turns to Alcatraz expert and comic book enthusiast, Dr. Diego "Doc" Soto (Jorge Garcia), to piece together the inexplicable sequence of events. The twosome discovers that Sylvane is not only alive, but he is loose on the streets of San Francisco, leaving bodies in his wake. And strangely, he has not aged a day since he was in Alcatraz, when the prison was ruled by the iron-fisted Warden Edwin James (Jonny Coyne) and the merciless Associate Warden E.B. Tiller (Jason Butler Harner).

Madsen and Doc reluctantly team with Agent Hauser and his technician, Lucy Banerjee (Parminder Nagra), to stop Sylvane's vengeful killing spree. By delving into Alcatraz history, government cover-ups and Rebecca's own heritage, the team will ultimately discover that Sylvane is only a small part of a much larger, more sinister present-day threat. For while he may be the first, it quickly becomes clear that Sylvane will not be the last prisoner to reappear from Alcatraz.

Through the course of the investigation, Madsen and Soto will learn that Agent Hauser has known about the prison's secret history and has been awaiting the prisoners' return. Soto will witness his life's work—the history of Alcatraz—come alive. Madsen will be forced to keep her supportive cop fiancé, Jimmy Dickens (Santiago Cabrera), at arm's length from the highly classified assignment as she sees everything she thought she knew about her family's past shattered, all while fighting to keep the country safe from history's most dangerous criminals

Person of Interest has lackluster numbers on CBS compared to where past offerings have been over the years and is only being kept where it is because CBS dug them self a hole by putting it in the 9pm Thurs hour. They should have kept CSI there and put POI at 10pm Wed. after Criminal Minds. CSI is still pulling its year ago numbers. Terra Nova will be done after its 13 episodes. For its cost, they can't afford those ratings.

I fail to see why people continue to hang off JJ Abrams nuts, his shows have done horrible over the last 5 years. Lost's final 3 years had lackluster ratings too, only those who really wanted to know what was going on stayed to watch. I like Fringe, but honestly, the numbers show it should have been canceled 2 years ago. Do I need to bring up Dollhouse????

The Shield's ratings towards its end also dropped. Doesn't mean it still wasn't one of the best series in modern tv history.
 
That's right, my bad, I forgot this was VSD and we've had this debate before. VSD members think because many of them watch a show it is "successful" and "high quality". Case in point, Parks & Rec and Community. Literally 2 of the most horrible shows on network TV that only stay on because NBC has nothing but other shows reruns to fill the air with.
 
I haven't seen Fringe though I've always wanted to, but Lost is one of my favorite shows ever though I didn't get into until the time off between Season five and Season six. Alcatrez looks interesting to me though it has nothing to do with Abrams. Also I think Terra Nova is alright, though while looking up the show I don't see anything about Abrams. And of course I disagree that ratings determine whether a show is of quality or not.

Same here. DVRed it. Currently going through season 6 of Dexter. Never saw Dexter until about 5 weeks ago. Am on episode 3 of season 6 of Dexter since discovering the first season on Netflix in Canada.

Alcatraz's first two episodes on my DVR. Will likely wait till 4 episodes are on it.

Everyone knows that TV executives base their renewal/cancellation policies on his retarded ramblings. Hence the reason it is widely acclaimed that Two and a Half Men is viewed as a higher quality show than the Wire.
 
Forgot about it premiering yesterday, will probably catch it tomorrow, watch it before class. My dad said he watched it and said it was really good, all I heard was JJ was involved many months ago and I was sold
 
I PVR'd it, but watched part of it last night and the rest this morning. It was... meh. Interesting concept but I think it just felt a bit too much like Lost or Fringe. Far from terrible for network TV, and I'm willing to keep watching for now as it could really differentiate itself as it moves along.
