hilarious that the tiggers beat the crap out of NY and are going to the world series...yet espn is only focused what arod will do next year

the yanks got outscored 19-6 and got out hit 46-22...with 11 of those hits coming in game 1

yes arod has a bad history in the playoffs and makes a shitload of money to perform. But fuck the yankees and rangers for paying him such a ludicrous salary. And its not like arod didnt show his poor playoff ability prior to NY signing him. they knew they were getting a regular season player.

its not 1 persons fault for their poor play. they didnt hit across the board and their pitching failed them at key times too. When a team puts such an emphasis on 1 player being the key to winning or losing, that is not lost on the other players. Especially when you have such big egos like the yankees have.

the tiggers are a team, the cards and giants are a team...the cards are proving that its not about 1 star player or 1 HOF manager

ARod being a bigger story than DET is to be expected.

He had a couple very good post-seasons in Seattle and really just one productive post-season for the Yankees, the one recently when they won the World Series.

Other important hitters were just as shit, but ARod being benched tells a much larger story that will sort itself out in the off-season.

Robinson Cano (1 for 18), Curtis Granderson (0 for 11, 7 SO), Nick Swisher (3 for 12, 5 SO), Mark Teixeira (3 for 15, 1 R).

They just ran out of steam, plus, no Jeter after game 1. Sucks because Baltimore definitely would have had a better series. :(

I think Girardi was using A-Rod as an "escape goat". The whole team sucked. Singling out A-Rod for a benching was kind of self-serving, IMO. I'm guessing if Jeter had been in an equally bad slump, Girardi wouldn't bench Jeter just so he could put Lenn Sakata in the lineup.
 
A Yankee manager trying to bench Jeter in the post-season would be plastered all over the tabloids/ESPN for weeks so bad it would make their infatuation with Tebow look like a puff piece.

Guess Detroit deserved it, they beat who they had to, just hard to not be disappointed as a White Sox fan since we had a chance to step on the Tigers throat and let them off the hook. But still, fucking mediocre ass World Series.

Totally worthless to play well for 162 games when it's a god damn crapshoot once you're there.

The Tigers had the 7th best record in the AL. 7th! Fucking 7th!

The Cardinals had the 5th, including finishing a full 6 games behind the team they only had to beat once to get into the "playoffs".

We live in an era that rewards mediocrity. The MLB playoffs are no longer designed to determine who the best team is/was in a given season. Once you get in, it's just a series of coin flips. I wish the barriers for entry would be more stringent, but alas, Bud and his 30 merry men gotta feed they family.

The MLB also plays by far the most regular season games. If you still don't know who your best teams are after 162 games, then there is something wrong with your league. If you are still letting in the 10th best team in the league after playing 162 games, then your postseason is already pretty pointless. If all the 10th best team has to do is win 4 games to reach the NLCS/ALCS, then your postseason is beyond pointless. I think the probelm is in addition to having too many teams in the postseason, its also too easy for the bad teams to advance.

The best option, IMO, would be to go back to the two division alignment and have the division winners play each other in a best of 7 series. But MLB would never do this. The MLB are their own worst enemy, because they want to add more teams to the postseason, but they don't want to extend the length of the postseason. Kind of unworkable.

I'm surprised Girardi didn't bench Jeter sooner seeing as he's the worst defensive player at the most important defensive position in the game.
