I was doing pretty decent with my controller earlier.

Monaco is a fun track once you learn it.

I started the race in 24th place due to a 10 place penalty from qualifying.

My best lap was 1:19.880, not bad for my first race there.

That was good enough to get me 21st place anyway.,

Presentation is massively improved. Graphics look a bit better than '11 as well, especially the coloring of everything. Game looks great so far.

Did all my driver tests and also did the season challenge. Just to see what driving in a lot of traffic feels like in this years game, I tanked the qualifying lap at Monza and started last. Took 2nd place in the 5 lap race (hope the AI is tougher in the retail version lol) and lost to Hamilton by 0.645.

Now I'm just doing free runs at Yas Marina Circuit. Here's my best time so far...

Dry: 1:48.556

I used all the way dry. Then I had ABS off and traction control on full. They definitely made it to where if you accelerate or turn sharply on those rumble strips, you'll spin that bitch.

And yeah, if you go back in after you exit the driving tests (once you've completed them), you can run free laps in dry or wet conditions.

What I didn't like is that I was penalized (twice) when a car spun out right in front of me and I couldn't avoid hitting it. Of course, I the penalty was for causing a collision , so even if I did catch up I would have been penalized 20 seconds.

I'm 99% sure that the penalties were all the way on instead of like the halfway thing. However, the more you drive the race, the more you understand what you need to do with the penalties up so high.

I am absolutely loving this game so far. Even though it's the demo and there's only a couple things to do, I've been playing non-stop. Can't wait for some of you other guys to play and see what you think. Next Tuesday can't come soon enough.

You can do the free runs in either dry or wet, like you can choose which one. The wet is only a wet track though, no rain.

TV pod cam, eh? I'll give that a try tonight - I love being in the cockpit. My first lap at Monza was my first experience with an F1 game and trying to figure out to read their version of the braking line. Result: over shoot the chicanes, both Lesmos, and went wildly off course at Ascari. Got a real good feel for how these car can handle gravel. I finally figured out how to read the brake line, and in my second race actually managed to go from 24th to 16th. The AI gets distance on me in the straights so I couldn't test my DRS, but they don't take those chicanes very smartly.

I'm a diehard cockpit cam guy for every single racing game, but even I love the TV pod cam. It's still semi-cockpit view, but you can see the track 100x better.

Learning braking and turning is the the #1 thing for this game. It's a big difference from sports car racing. Another thing is that these cars will handle better at high speeds than at low speeds (which will seem backwards to new drivers). I've definitely learned not to turn sharply or hit the throttle on the kurbs. That will spin you in a heartbeat.

When driving at Monza, Ascari and Parabolica are the 2 turns where you can really make up some good ground if you take them just right. I usually gain quite a bit of ground coming out of Ascari b/c I can get through it at full throttle. I'll touch the brakes coming into Vialone and then just throttle straight through Ascari. If you're trying to catch someone, leaving about 1/4 of your KERS left until you hit the throttle on Parabolica will help a lot.
