I know Jeter will likely make it based on fan voting or some shit...no way should he be selected IMO.

On the other hand, I'd give the ok for Chipper to get the call this year. Makes for a nice story, plus it's no stretch since the pool at 3B is pretty shallow in the NL (including Wright's down year so far).

NL catching is actually pretty deep. Figure one deserving guy won't make it. McCann got left off b/c I figured Monero gets the nod with the ASG being played in Arizona.

No Albert Pujols this year...

Most fans are unlikely to vote for Matt Joyce or Kyle Farnsworth. Fact is though, they are balling right now. So I do like those picks by you. Especially Joyce who is leading the AL in average and has a 1000+ OPS right now.

Agreed, and that is where one or the other is probably excluded from the team. If half the starters don't deserve to be on the team, then those are roster spots that aren't there for other players.

I do like the fact that he has three Orioles on the roster. Wieters, Guerrero and Britton all deserve it. But I don't see Guerrero making it over other hitters. Wieters is a very good catcher but I think Mauer makes it on fan vote. Britton could very well make it.

Guerrero gets the nod of one of the DH picks (even though it's an NL park, both teams use the DH). Ortiz and Young are solid picks IMO. Guerrero gets in over Billy Butler (although perhaps I should've had Butler go in), mainly because....yes, Butler should be the pick.

Butler has 1 less HR, = Runs, is hitting under 300 but has a much better OBP and a smaller SLG number...because he has walked more than 25 times compared to Guerrero.

Even if he doesn't make the fan vote (assuming he keeps hitting), he has to make the team. It's as if he's been hot since the start of the yer.

Farnsworth has a chance. He's only pitched 15 innings, but 9K, 1 BB is good. We'll see if he can stay hot because they usually take 6-7 relievers. Right now, only Mo, Perez, Valverde and Papelbon are guys I'd take over him.

For most of the positions, I tried to pick 3 (1 starter, 2 reserves). For NL 2B, Phillips and Walker are the two clear picks. What's wrong with Barney? Only guy worth considering over him would be Rickie Weeks, but I don't like him b/c he has 7 HR, only 14 RBI and he struck out over 40 times so far. Barney has over 20 less at bats on Weeks, and struck out over 30 less times.

Nice catch on Marcum. Probably deserves it more than Kershaw and Kennedy.

Mauer should definitely get the fan vote. Whether he'll play or not is the issue. Assuming he doesn't, then it's wide open for Wieters (Martin is a definite)....Alex Avila is the dark horse.

Homer pick alert: I would choose Carlos Quentin over Ichiro right now. CQ's BA is lower but he's OB at the exact same clip as Ichiro, plus he's slugging .525, almost 200 points better than Ichiro. He leads the league in doubles, has 9 HR and has driven in 26. His defense is subpar but that's his biggest downside compared to Ichiro.

Joe Mauer will probably make it because he is a household name. Russell Martin stands an outside chance with the Yankee fans of beating him out, but no way Mauer should make the game.

There are always a couple players like that. What makes the NBA worse is that there are half as many players on the roster than the MLB All-Star team.

Russell Martin - 35 hits, 6 doubles, 8 home runs, 24 RBIs
Rod Barajas - 30 hits, 4 doubles, 7 home runs, 15 RBIs

Keep in mind that Barajas was signed as a defense-first catcher, he's hitting at Dodger Stadium, and he's 8th in the line-up. Having the pitcher on deck will hardly get you anything good to hit, and don't count on bums like Loney to get into scoring position.

Don't drink the kool-aid on Russel Martin, boys and girls. I never liked that creole-canadian much anyways.
