With Backbreaker having started promotion in advance of its May 18th release some previews will be out in the coming weeks. Scans of a new preview in the overseas magazine X360 have emerged. The actual article is written in an overly sensationalist manner so from it I’ve pulled out just the information on the game that hasn’t been touched on before.

Created teams being used online will not have the customized logos, jerseys, and field art displayed to opponents. It is implied that the decision to have teams show up as generic online was made due to the possibility of inappropriate content. Worry over potential licensing issues probably played a bigger part however. It is unclear whether custom teams will show when in private games against friends.
The article lists 1-22 players as well as an 11 vs 11 mode (in the mold of Online Team Play) but that has been confirmed to be incorrect information. There will be up to 2vs2.

User controlled players on defense can be switched during the action (something that was not in the E3 build last year). It will not necessarily be the player closest to the action switched to but could be someone who has a better opportunity of making a play.
A button will flip the camera while on defense in a situation where an assignment (or the ball) gets behind the user controlled player.

Wow this has really spiralled out of control again! Let me clarify... though I'm not going into complete details since a lot of this will be covered in the upcoming previews.

1) You can take your custom team online
2) Your friends will see your full team design including logos and endzones
3) Strangers online will see a default logo and endzone replace your created logos but your team will otherwise remain the same statistically. And YOU will still see your logo creations and endzones.

Bottom line... the title of this thread is incorrect. You 100% can take custom teams online and play anyone you want.

Further information about custom teams will be revealed in due course.

I misread the orignal post. Apologies. Best waiting until all the previews come out right at the start of March. They have been given all the details about online multiplayer AND the offline league systems...

Believe me, you're going to find out plenty!

So next week should be pretty big for info. He also noted that he delibrately bolded the letter S on the word 'systems'.

Ok that Backbreaker mode (Franchise) sounds f'ing sweet with the moving up the leagues deal, signing FA's, drafting, etc. Real excited for that. Along with the co-op or 2-player games where it's split screen with your own camera, that's pretty awesome as well. Game is getting me excited.

so much juicy info in there. finally some raw gameplay cuts in that video, looks great.

a bit sad about no injuries and the financial system of the franchise mode sounds a lil odd, but if those are the only negatives for a brand new title you can't complain too much.

Ok...some of the aspects of this game look fucking awesome. The graphics look great, the presentation is nice, tackling is fantastic...but seriously, the jukes? I could juke better, they are so stiff, all of the juke moves are incredible slow and stiff. When players are running full speed and change direction they look ridiculous. When your controlling someone like a safety and a linebacker you see them shuffle there feet...they also look ridiculous. I really like the franchise set up with the advancing leagues, all though that has been done before (Blitz the league).

I'm intrigued.

Honestly, it is their first try at a sports game. You got to give them just a little bit of slack. It isn't like they have had 10 years to try and get it right. Besides, it could be just the video footage, wait for the game. Stiff jukes are not going to stop me from buying this.
