Pullman, WA - After a tough loss last weekend again the Trojans down in Los Angeles, the Beavers could take comfort that they had lowly Cougars next on their schedule. It has been another long season for Washington State as Paul Wulff has yet to win a game. Now they would face the angry Beavers who were looking to make a statement after playing so poorly on national television.
Wazzu immediately gave the Cougar fans something to be excited about when 3rd string QB Marshall Lobbestael found WR Daniel Blackledge. OSU SS Lance Mitchell failed to make the tackle and Blackledge was able to gain 57 yards. Then Lobbestael hit WR Anthony Houston for a 10-yard TD to give Washington State the
7-0 lead.

The Beavers were making a statement, but just not the statement they wanted to be making as the Cougar defense was able to force OSU to punt after a three-and-out. But WSU was unable to seize the momentum as too went three-and-out. On the next possession, OSU HB Ryan McCants found his found his way into the end zone from two yards out to tie the game
7-7.

But the Cougars were staying in the game and did not seem to be intimidated in the least by what the Beavers were bringing to the table. Lobbenstael, under pressure was able to get the ball out quickly to WR Daniel Blackledge who was able to get by OSU CB James Dockery and take it all the way to the house for a 52-yard TD to regain the lead for the Cougars
14-7.

However, the Beavers responded quickly as HB Ryan McCants broke through a hole. Then ran through a WSU DB and scampered 60 yards into the end zone to tie it up
14-14.

Up to this point, WSU had been able to match OSU but then Lobbenstael was was picked off by OSU OLB Keith Pankey who scored on an easy pick-six to give the Beavers their first lead of the game.
21-14.

To start the 2nd quarter, the OSU defense seemed to wake up and put a stop to the Cougar offense. However, OSU QB Ryan Katz would be intercepted by WSU CB Chima Nwachukwu on a deep pass to WR James Rodger. But the Cougars were unable to take advantage of the opportunity. When OSU got the ball back, Katz would find himself under pressure and was able to get to James Rodgers over the middle in single coverage who took it the distance for a 72-yard TD to make it
28-14 OSU.

To make matters worse for Wazzu, Lobbestael would throw another interception which OSU CB Brandon Hardin took back for another pick-six. Suddenly, Oregon State was up
35-14.

The Beavers would continue to pull away when they were able to tack on a 19-yard FG at the end of the half to make it
38-14.
Surprisingly the Beavers were unable to continue their dominance in the 3rd quarter. To start the 2nd half, the Beavers were held on 4th down in WSU territory. But the Cougars were held yet again. Though WSU was able to force the Beavers to punt. When a fake punt prevailed for the Cougars it looked like WSU might be able to score but OSU DT Mitchell Hunt was able force the ball loose from Lobbestael in the pocket which the Beavers recovered. But then OSU QB Ryan Katz turned around and gave it right back WSU when he was intercepted.
So to start the 4th quarter, WSU HB James Montgomery lining up in the slot scored on a 2-yard TD run on the jet sweep and then Washington State was successful on the 2-point conversion to cut the lead to
38-22.
After yet another OSU three-and-out, Wazzu found itself in the red zone when Lobbestael connected with Blackledge for another big gain. Unfortunately, Lobbestael on the very next play was picked off by OSU OLB Dwight Roberson. Not long after, Ryan McCants found a huge hole, broke a tackle at the sideline and was gone for an 88-yard TD run. The Beavers were now out in front
45-22 and many of the fans started heading for the exits.

After the Cougars were held on 4th down the game was all but over but it did not stop McCants from scoring another TD on a 44-yard run to set a new school rushing record of 305 yards and putting the Beavers ahead
52-22.

Backup HB Jovan Stevenson also got in on the action as he broke loose on a 62-yard TD run of his own on the last play of the game to make it a
59-22 beatdown.
