Haven't seen enough fights to make any predictions, but it's interesting so I'll try and watch. You all seem generally more educated than me - do you know why they fight in our larger, circular ring instead of an octagon? Is it just to set themselves apart?

The UFC has legal rights to the octagon, so other organizations can't use an eight-sided cage unless they get permission.

Like Shogun said, the UFC, actually Zuffa has the rights to an Octogon cage, so you will see the Octogon only in UFC and WEC shows, but the WEC cage is a smaller version, I believe UFC fight Nights also get a little smaller cage

Bellator uses the circle cage, EliteXC also used to use it, Strikeforce uses a 6 sided cage, DREAM when they do a rare cage show uses 5 sides I believe

Gracias amigos. I was actually confused about Strikeforce, too but then remembered - as you pointed out - that it's a Hexagon. Never seen a DREAM show. Familiar with the WEC smaller octagon.

I go down to Frank's gym every couple months to teach the fight team, she was there twice and in my class
