Nope, not what I mean at all. I meant exactly what I said. Elway carried average Broncos teams to Super Bowls.

Two of those are John Elway "leading" his team to the super bowl. One of them is Rex Grossman "leading" his team to the super bowl.

LOL at comparing Elway leading the Broncos to the Super Bowl(multiple times) surrounded by below average players on offense and for the most part average defenses when Grossman had a great offensive line, a terrific running game and a stellar defense, not to mention near flawless special teams. Talk about apples and oranges.

Elways WAS those Broncos teams. Outside of him nearly no one on that team was worth mentioning. Elway carried those teams to wins and carried what were very average football teams to 3 Super Bowls. Conversely Young, on a supremely talented 49ers team managed only to make it to one Super Bowl and frankly Young, for all his regular season prowess was perhaps the most underachieving QB of the 1990's as far as "team" goes.

Elway didn't become a good quarterback until 1993 and what he did afterwards is far from making him an all time great.

Ha. Ok Whatever you say. :shifty: Elway was a good QB during the 1980's. No levelheaded rational football fan would think any different.

Elway-- Was always in the discussion as one of the greatest. No clue what NFL games Adem was watching. Him having a lesser arm then ANYONE is downright ridiculous. Strongest arm on that list period.

Young-Nowhere near as physically talented as Aikman/Favre/Elway. He had the weakest arm of the GOAT guys. He was very accurate and did have great running ability. Consistently had the most or narely second most talented team int he league and the best WR for years yet consistently lost to Favre/Aikman in the playoffs. Hes an all time great but in no way can get listed above those 2.

Kelly-- Again 0-4 on an elitely talented team.

Aikman-- Most accurate passer on the list. Only Marino could match that release and accuracy.

Young/Aikman/Kelly are all below Elway.

Hey, remember when Vance Johnson sued "Inside The NFL", because they showed his wang? I remember it vividly....it was clip of Dan Reeves giving a locker room speech, and there was Johnson's johnson, in all it's i'm-not-exactly-doing-the-black-man-stereotype-justice "glory".

John Elway made it to three SBs with his best WR being Vance Johnson, his best RB being Sammy Winder, his best TE being Clarence Kay, and his best lineman being Billy Bryan. I don't think those guys will be confused with Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Brent Jones, Jay Novacek, Larry Allen, Erik Williams, etc.

I wouldn't rate Young over Elway, and Aikman and Kelly wouldn't even be in the same discussion as Elway.

The way I look at is...could QB A have done better than QB B in the same situation?

I rate Montana high because I don't think any other QB could have performed better than Montana. I rate Elway high because I don't think any other QB could have gotten the 1986-89 Broncos to 3 Super Bowls. Compare that to Steve Young...I think any decent QB could have won the Super Bowl with the 1994 49ers.

Very tough.. as I grew up on the tail end of Montana's career and being a Seahawk fan.. I obviously know how good Elway was.. (I think he lost to Seattle maybe 2 or 3 times his whole career.. fucker owned us)

I love Brady and Manning.. and they can enter this discussion when they retire, but for me it's between Montana and Elway.

I would have to imagine that many that put down Elway didnt watch him play much.
Anytime I look back Im absolutely baffled as to how those Broncos teams made it that many times. Ill be the first to say Elways numbers are goudy...but it seemed every pass he made was the one that counted , was the one that disheartened a defense , and that most QBs in the league maybe history couldnt make.

Im not a fan of the guy but jeez the guy was good. The MNF game vs Montana , and the playoff against the Browns are shown once in awhile on NFL network. Its must watch for anyone who doubts what his ability as a QB and leader were.

Were the 4 super bowl trips the difference between those guys ? Both played in air it out offenses but Moons put up some goudy stats. Yet hes never mentioned while Kellys name gets thrown around in that bottom tier of greats.

Tell that to Kurt Warner.

Marino slides for me because several of these playoff games were against teams he'd already faced and done well against in the regular season. I recall one specifically where he lit a team up in December one month later played terribly.

Marino is to QB as Barry is to RB. Best pure passer ever at the position but not coming through in the clutch slides him down a spot or 2.

Serious question here....Why do you like him? He won a Super Bowl and a AFL Championship, yes. He was one of the first quarterbacks to air it out but he has a below 500 record as a starter, and has almost 50 more Interceptions than Touchdowns.
