Big East considers adding TCU.

More money and automatic BCS bid would be my guess.

Now, I agree with others that this would be a lateral move at best with regards to conference strength. I also think that the new MWC will probably get its own automatic bid in time. I don't think TCU would seriously consider the move either. However, if TCU does join the Big East, I doubt the BE would be in jeopardy of losing its auto bid anytime soon.

This is my thought as well. You'd think TCU would be recruiting more members to the MWC at this point, instead of looking at a lateral move like this would be.

Plus, TCU's basketball program would be absolutely worthless in the Big East.

i dont get why you guys think the MWC will get an automatic BCS bid some time soon. theyre going backwards by losing Utah and BYU, despite adding Boise. the only way the MWC would get an auto-bid would be if they could get TCU, Boise, Utah, BYU, Nevada, and Fresno all in one conference.

I respectfully disagree. Losing Utah and BYU is gonna be bad, but not as bad as you might think. I think Utah is going to be doing something positive for themselves, whereas BYU's move to independent is going to backfire. I think the addition of BSU and Nevada is going to help. They'll have ten competitive teams. I think they're going to be alright if they keep what they've been doing going.

But we'll see.

I think the Big East could potentially lose their AQ the way they sometimes play. But nothing's for sure yet. :ionno:

I disagree. I think that if the MWC doesn't get an auto bid, it's because these schools leave, not the other way around. They lack confidence in their conference, and as such create a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure to achieve their goal of the auto bid.

TCU isn't "jumping" at anything right now. And if they leave the MWC, it won't be to join a lesser football conference and a basketball conference in which they'd be lucky to win 2 games a year in.

If they move anywhere, it'll be the Pac 12 or the Big XII (or whatever they will name themselves soon).

Again, if TCU had a real opportunity to be in the Big East, they would be gone already. It's a no brainer. It's an auto bid BCS conference with FAR better TV markets and a better base of traditional football schools.

I feel bad for the MWC, but the fact the top three football schools are running for the door should be your first clue on where they stand in the power structure.

Texas doesnt want TCU in the Big 12 and the Pac 10/12 is done expanding for the foreseeable future... TCU moving to the BE isnt a lateral move, its a move from a non-AQ to an AQ conference... and i dont know why so many of you think the BE is a lesser conference, as top to bottom, its easily the better of the two...

I disagree. While I understand what you're saying, the quickest and easiest way for any of these teams (Utah in particular, as BYU has chosen to be independent which guarantees them nothing in terms of the BCS and there doesn't seem to be much behind TCU seriously considering a move yet) to get an auto bid is to join a current BCS conference since an auto bid for the MWC is still probably a couple of years away. If the top teams of the new MWC are able to maintain their on field performance, I think the powers that be in the BCS are going to have to reconsider the distribution of automatic bids, especially if the Big East continues to put a lackluster product on the field.

Its not self fullfilling prophecy, its the reality of the CARTEL power structure. These schools know the score.

Okay, I feel you. My youthful optimism has me believing that eventually they could crack the cartel, but apparently even they don't believe that.

Yeah, I don't think the college football powers have any interest in increasing the number of automatic BCS bids by extending one to the MWC. I would think that there is a better chance of the college football powers rescinding the Big East's automatic bid, rather than extending one to the MWC.

Thats not a knock on the MWC or an endorsement of the Big East, thats just the way it is.

And for those of you saying TCU would never go to the Big East because of the basketball competition, get real. No one cares about TCU's basketball team anyway. I don't think TCU's administration would allow the basketball team to stand in the way of an automatic BCS bid. That would be like Nebraska refusing to go to the Big10 because their basketball team wants to play in an easier league.

Thats not what I said. I said there is probably a higher chance of the NCAA rescinding the Big East's automatic bid compared to the NCAA giving out an additional bid to the MWC. The college football ruling class is all about consolidating power, not extending power.

the Big East is in too many large markets: the BCS will never take away an auto-bid from a conference with established markets in Tampa, Pittsburgh, NY/NJ, and the entire state of WV, as well as burgeoning markets in Louisville, Cincinnati and Connecticut... Trading those for markets in Reno, Colorado Springs, Laramie, Provo, Fresno, and Boise just doesnt make sense...
