After those two it really breaks down. Lamb, Wayns, and Pope are having excellent statistical years on struggling teams. Kris Joseph and Hollis Thompson are putting up solid if not unremarkable numbers for elite teams. Some people have argued that Jae Crowder is more deserving as a Marquette candidate than DJO.

How much should team success play into the winner? Most people can probably agree that KJ is overall the best player but should it go to a player on a team that will probably finish about .500 in conference play? This year is interesting because other than Marquette the top teams do not have a stand-out, prolific player. I am interested to see how it plays out.

I'd give it to Kevin Jones because he's not just one of the conference's best players this season, but rather has been one of the nation's best. And without him, that team might not have a shot to be in any post-season tournament.

The only issue I see with Jones winning is that looking back the team of the winner has practically always been very successful. Like any MVP award it seems Jones chances are going to be hurt because of it.

If Jae Crowder played as many minutes as Kevin Jones his per-38.3 minutes numbers would be:

19.5 ppg 9.2 rpg 2.4 apg 2.8 spg (50% FG 37% 3FG)

I am really looking forward to the Marquette-West Virginia game the 24th, especially since Jones and Crowder will likely be covering each other the whole game. If one of them really outshines the other they'll essentially win the award in my mind.

They will prob put kilicli and Rutledge on crowder, as those two guard the other teams best post player...

Crowder doesn't really post up that often, though. I don't think the Turkish guy can guard Crowder on the perimeter.

I think Crowder is the best overall player in the Big East, but I doubt he wins the award. That said, the Big East POTY award is a total joke. Hansborough from Notre Dame was possibly the worst award winner in any sport in the history of sports. It would be like the NBA naming Kirk Hinrich its league MVP.
