Free agent Hedo Turkoglu(notes) has backed out of his commitment to the Portland Trail Blazers and could be signing with the Toronto Raptors, a source close to the talks told Yahoo! Sports on Friday night.

Turkoglu had agreed on a five-year, $50 million deal with the Blazers, but changed his mind and could be headed for a five-year, $56 million deal with the Raptors. Toronto would have to renounce three free agents – Shawn Marion(notes), Carlos Delfino(notes) and Anthony Parker(notes) – to create the cap space for Turkoglu.

Apparently, the Blazers are already busy exploring other free-agent options for the $9 million in salary-cap space.

Five years ago, Turkoglu was close to signing with the Phoenix Suns that now-Toronto GM Bryan Colangelo was running, but changed his mind and went to the Orlando Magic.

I'm still not sold on the fact that everyone thinks Hedo would have did more harm than good in Portland (yes I know he's going to the Raps). They need a veteran player bad to help them get over the hump. Roy likes the ball in his hands, but he's the only ball-handler and play-maker that the Blazers got. Hedo would have given them another guy who can set up the offense, actually get Roy shots without the ball, and another guy who can create his own shot. Is he a great defender? No. But he would've helped out in a lot of ways and I can't see him making them worse.

I definitely agree that the Blazers would benefit overall from Turk, I just didn't like the fit, or the contract for that matter.

Now I'm just hoping that they'll at least make a run at someone noteworthy while they still have the space to do so.

Toronto is a better fit for Hedo, as he'll get to make his money and be the go-to-guy once Bosh leaves. Hedo is one of those guys who needs to feel appreciated and he'll be appreciated in Toronto even moreso then in Portland. Yes, Portland is the better team, but Hedo isn't about just winning, but being paid and appreciated. So, he has no problem going to a team that is going to be going through yet another rebuilding process once Bosh leaves. If they want to be successful this is how the Raptors need to build their team - go after marginal star foreign players who can play multiple positions and hope the team becomes competitive enough to keep their American born draft picks (Bosh, Derozan).

NY is the biggest market in the NBA and Lebron wants to be the first billionaire player is it? Putting two and two together his greed and ego will send him to NY and if Bosh wants to win and play with Lebron he'll go to NY.

Greed? Because he wants to do more than just play basketball? He wants to be the biggest athelete (in terms of money and popularity) to ever play in the NBA . How is that greed? Hes aiming for the top and actually has a decent shot of acheiving it . He wants to leave his name on the history books for more than just scoring records or triple doubles , i dont see anything wrong with that . Id be more worried if he was settling than aiming for the very top . It is a buisness after all

And every good player has an ego lol , unlike alot of superstars he doesnt have such a big ego that he neglects his teammates and refuses to get them involved . He passes when he needs to and according to all sources is very popular in the locker room unlike SOME superstars.

He also hired some of his old HS buddies to be his agents at one point (not sure if they still are) instead of paying some big money fat cat . Does that sound greedy or ego driven to you? Looking after his freinds?

Lebron is greedy and ego driven, but I don't think that's a bad thing. He wants to be known as one of the greatest ever, and he wants to be the first billion dollar athlete. If that will help the game of basketball, then that's great.

The fact that he is both greedy and ego driven allows him to succeed. The fact that he is ego driven means that he wont settle with a second rate team, as long as he is making big money. He wants to make the money, and he wants to play for a good team as well, so he can put his name all over the game, and also help out the people around him.
