Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany signed a new six-year contract with the Premier League champions Thursday.

The long-term deal shows the Blues' faith in the 26-year-old Kompany, who last season led City to its first top-flight crown since 1968.

Kompany said it was his intent to deliver more trophies to Eastlands as the 'Man City project' continues.

"Hopefully in the future I will have a bigger impact than I already have," the Belgium international said in a statement on City's official website. "There are so many more trophies to win at this club that is why it makes it so special.

"For me if you are good somewhere then there is no reason to look elsewhere. Man City as a project is not just a project of the owners or the people employed by the club; it is also my project.

"I have been here since the beginning and I have seen everything at the club change inside and out. I have the feeling that I have contributed to it too. It is good to know that I can be at City for another six years. It is a compliment that the club feels so highly of me."

Kompany was signed by Mark Hughes from Hamburg in August 2008 and has helped transform City into one of the most high-profile clubs in Europe. The City skipper said he believes the FA Cup and Premier League triumphs of the last two years are just the beginning of success at City.

"Our title win was amazing and one of the best feelings ever for us and the fans," Kompany said. "That last game against QPR will be a very special part of City's history for the next 50 or 100 years but now is the time to look forward.

"We have laid the foundations and now we want to win more. If we do that then we can be one of the most successful clubs for a long time to come and that is the aim. I can't wait to get started again. I am really excited about the season ahead."

I can't even front I CAN NOT wait for the season to start. I really do enjoy waking up Saturday mornings, smoking a little ganja and watchin City put in work. It's a great pre-cursor to the college football/NFL season starting.

Scott Sinclair and his agent have traveled to Manchester to sort a deal after #mcfc agreed to pay £8million for the Swansea star.

This is awesome. Sinclair is one of my favorite players to watch. Did not see this move coming at all, but I do believe this is the final nail in Adam Johnson's City coffin. Glad I waited to get a jersey because I will most def be buying a Sinclair jersey once the move is made final.

In the second half of last season, I suddenly got to start far fewer games - and I've got no idea why. I lost my rhythm. I joined City in order to play in matches. I never imagined that things would turn out the way they have. I am too good for the bench. If I continue to sit matches out, then anything is possible.

Today I'll travel to Manchester for a training ..wish me good luck.

i am beginning to wonder if Manchini talks to the media about wanting to add all these star guys to the team to play mind games with other managers/players/etc. he (and some City players) made it known through the media that he really liked RVP and would like him on the team. then United buy him when they had other holes to fill. i doubt City's interest in RVP was the main driving factor for united but maybe it had some impact

Not the best performance but still got 3 points so it's all good. Hope the news on Aguero's injury isn't too bad.

Same score as the QPR game and played out very similar. Rodwell seemed to have a few mental errors, chances that were created were not capitalized on either. While we won 3-2, I thought it could have easily been 4-2 and a much more dominant performance.

I am also worried about the Aguero injury. He looked like he was in a lot of pain, I didn't see anything on the replay regarding his knee. To me it looked more like a ankle injury. Like they said on the broadcast though, this may create some urgency to add a player or two while the window remains open.

Aguero tweeted that it's not too serious. I expect him to miss the next 2 games, then there is an international break week and he could return after that. Dzeko and Mario going to need to step up in the meantime.
