Do you think missing 30 defensive snaps (roughly) v Vanderbilt was enough of a punishment by Florida?

I know we had a thread on the incident but I am just wondering what peoples view on the punishment is

I get that it happens all the time but that doesn't make it right at all. And I don't buy that he was simply retaliating for something that happened earlier in the game. He could have seriously fucked that kids life up.

He's a thug and Meyer is a douche.

Funny thing is, this shit happens all the time to players under piles. Watch some interviews with players talking about what happens in those piles. Some of that stuff is worse than what Spikes did.



But I think he should have atleast been suspended the full game.

the suspension is a joke, just like the refs in the sec, but an eye gouge is probably one of the least dirty things done in pile ups. this guy did it onthe outside of the pile and aot caught. Myer cant suspend the guy for doing what he taught him...

Absolutely not, he was only gonna play 1 half vs. Vanderbilt anyway. And fuck no eye-gouging is not part of the game, nor should it be.

To those who say this happens all the time, as Eric Winston said "only in the movies"....Stop trying to act like this is normal, yes football is a violent game but this goes outside of the realm of the game and into maliciousness and intent to harm.

Urban Meyer is a classless prick, and this is just one more example of this.

theres alot of dirty crap that goes on in the pile, but it doesn't mean you get a free pass when you get caught. He should have been suspended the whole game for christ sake it's Vanderbilt and people wouldn't even be talking whether its fair or not..

I forget who the guy was on TV but he said a lot of smart things about this topic. It's really no different than what LaGarrett Blunt did earlier in the year against Boise St.; Spikes let his emotions get to his head and he reacted irrationally because of it. Gouging at somebodies eyes is assault... I realize that dirtier things probably happen in a fight for a fumble that we can't see, but that doesn't justify these actions. You don't go into a movie theatre and gouge somebodies eyes out because you don't think anyone will see you.

Football is a violent game, but it's controlled violence. There's a snap to mark the beginning of the play, there are multiple rules in place during the play to keep the players safe, and everything ends with a whistle. What Spikes did was way out of line and he should be suspended the entire season for it.

Exactly. The difference with Spikes is that he got caught going after someone's eyes of all things.

Florida Fan? Thought so. Now STFU. If you don't see that a half game is a joke of a suspension, especially against Vanderbilt, you're blinded by your Gator love. Yes, it's the next game on the schedule, but that shouldn't matter. You either care about discipline and integrity over winning or you don't. I already knew where Meyer stood (cough Marcus Thomas cough cough) but this is just another example.
