I also remember NAHSTE making fun of everyone talking about how Luck was a once in a generation QB prospect, even though it's become pretty obvious that all the Luck hype was dead on and the other QBs in that draft can't hold a candle to him.
Show me where I ever said Luck wasn't the best QB in that draft, that I thought he would be a "bust" or anything of the sort. I loved him as a prospect and acknowledged throughout that ordeal that I thought he'd be a good pro. As I recall, the stance I took was more of a cautioning against suggestions that he could immediately step in and seamlessly take over for a guy who, depending on who you ask, is possibly the greatest QB of all time, while also simply poking fun at the breathless BEST IN A GENERATION hype that was surrounding him. It's both easy and fun to mock the DRAFTNIK culture's obsession with superlatives and hyperbolic statements, and the comparisons to hall of famers get thrown around pretty liberally pre-draft. (As we're seeing with another round of combine analysis, and not just for Winston. Not sure if you have been watching the combine on NFL Network, they think every random jagoff from Abilene Christian can be compared to a pro bowler.)
Back to Jameis, if you don't think he is going to be good, that's fine with me. I'm not invested in his future at all. But there's a lot of off base criticism of his mental aptitude in this thread, or worse, ludicrous suggestions that he should have played baseball. Those misinformed #takes were all that I was addressing. (And as unreliable and easy to dismiss as anonymous quotes may be, I'll side with those and the two years of in-game performance I've personally witnessed over OOBL's opinion. I hope you can understand.)
I have no idea if Jameis will be good, bad or average but I know if he fails it probably won't be because of lack of preparation or knowledge of the playbook. I only posted those quotes to further drive home the point that maybe, just maybe, a kid who shredded college football as a RS Freshman and went 26-1 as a starter understands X's and O's better than he's getting credit for in this thread.
OOBL said something dumb, I provided direct evidence (both on January 10, and again six weeks later) illustrating why I believe his statement was dumb, and that is all. I'm not gonna sit here and white knight for a player I don't even particularly like who's about to be playing for a division rival.
But I must side with logic over bullshit.
