Haha I don't care that Hamels hit him, it's just hilarious that the reason for it is basically "I felt like it." The whole "just trying to maintain tradition" and all that seems kind of strange from someone who debuted just six years ago. Has the culture really changed that much since then?

Plus, even under the old-school mantra of baseball, you don't get buzzed simply for being young and good. You actually had to do something to warrant the wake up call. Did Harp do any preening last night or something? Unless he's staring down dingers and starting his trot with a bat flip and a pirouette, the only justification for throwing at him is basically: "you mad."

I personally love it. I especially love that on Hamel's powerplay, Harper ended up scoring.

Harper is douchey but at least he does his talking on the field (for the most part), I respect that.

Exactly. I can't remember Harper having any issues with opposing players. Only time I remember him getting in to anything was with the umpire on the check swing call. Harper got mad and the third base ump returned in kind. Not really sure how that shows up the Phillies.

I like that Harper was able to steal home on Hamels and then shoot him a little glare afterward. His attitude will probably become off-putting over time, but right now it's a breath of fresh air for me.

That was so awesome. That's what people "hate" about him. He just goes out and goes as hard as he can and dares someone to beat him.

I don't get why he beaned the kid. Although I thought the GM calling hime "gutless" was kind of silly, considering he had 4 at bats and took the retalitory beaning himself....

This brings up another issue. Suspensions for pitchers suck. 5-6 games they just get pushed back a day.

The phillies have an off day so this five game suspension doesn't even matter. Roy Halladay is just moved up a day and starts on normal rest.

Suspensions for starters should be 8 games minimum.

MLB suspended Cole Hamels for five games and fined him an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at Nationals' outfielder Bryce Harper during Sunday's game.
Hamels hit Harper with a fastball in the first inning of Sunday's game and later admitted that it was intentional. The suspension is the appropriate course of action here, though it's hardly a severe punishment, as his next start will merely be pushed back by a day. Hamels will not appeal and will begin serving the suspension Monday night.

lol at this whole situation. I was listening to The Herd this morning and they had Curt Schilling call in and he was flipping his shit over the comments Hamels mad after the game. He basically was calling Hamels a dumbass for beaning the kid "just because he is a rookie".

Probably? He definitely doesn't. That was a big discussion on the radio today...if Hamels comes out and says the pitch got away from him and it was an accident or whatever, he doesn't get punished at all. But since Hamels was being honest, he gets suspended.
