[ALL] Call of Duty Elite: $7.99 a month?

Hope that nobody is shocked by this. CoD has been following the Madden product lifecycle for some time and this is the FPS version of EA's "Online Pass"

Online Pass= Free with "first sale" purchase.
Call of Duty Elite= ~$8 monthly fee after purchase of the game.

Yeah online pass was a way to try to stick it to gamestop and such for the used games.... but they still sell the used games for the same price and don't mention the online pass is $10 and you end up paying full price for a used game lol

There's too many FPS out there as it is and they're all pretty much the same - choose a gun, kill someone. I never paid for any map packs and there's no need for gang raping my wallet. I will not buy MW3 if they're only going to sell me half the game for $60.

I'll bet $100 fun bucks () that it succeeds. Most of us,the sane ones at least, were all hoping the $15 map packs would fail miserably and that wasn't the case at all.
This "program" targets people like Pete and my cousin who won't blink twice when CoD is concerned. My cousin was just talking about CoD and Madden at a bbq yesterday. He was saying how those two games are basically all he plays and that he'd pay $100+ to play them with all the bells and whistles. Fucking idiot.

You can Hate on COD:MW all you want but you guys are an angry small group....there are millions upon millions playing MW1 and MW2 at any given moment. Activision is concerned with them not the 5% that hate on them.

I am sure EA and Battlefield follows right in their footsteps.

This is EXACTLY what I was going to say....same free stuff that HALO provides. IT is a money maker for Activision though. I think it is overpriced though. 4.99 would sound better but I am thinking they get 10% of the people that play to sign up and it is just easy money.

After reading more about this and watching the video(because that article was pretty terrible), I don't have a problem with this at all. They aren't forcing you to buy anything. I think a lot of the content included sounds pretty nice, even though I am not a COD fan.

Elite is aimed at people, like MVPete, that are die hard COD fans. Its all extra content that isn't needed to enjoy the game. This "premium service" won't affect sales at all.

Actually after watching the video, this stuff doesn't really interest me at all. lol

It really is what Bungie offers for Halo- a big community and ways to track stats. The best part about that is that its free. The only redeeming factor for it will be how much DLC they can put out for it (and that would depend on how many people subscribe to it.)

To be fair, it doesn't seem like this subscription affects online play or makes new maps inaccessible for those who don't pay. From what's been officially revealed, CoD Elite is all stat tracking and community features so far.

And I love how everyone in this thread is just assuming the cost will be $7.99 a month because the OP put it in the title. If you read the article it says it will be less than that so it probably will be $5.

I love how Pete recognizes that it's the exact same thing but says he's getting it. Are you proving that you are just so cool you have money to burn or what? We get it man, you just don't care what you're spending your money on. That's awesome. I have tons of money to burn too but I sure am not going to waste it on leaderboards and bullshit.

And this is my main problem. I know JMS quoted me earlier assuming I hate CoD. I don't. It's a decent game. I think it's way over hyped. I think they already fucked people with overpriced map packs.

When this thing sells well, which it will, it will set another bad precedent. People scoff now but I guarantee you in five years we will be paying extra to fucking look at our achievements or leaderboards. This can't go anywhere but downhill.
