I've got one spot. It can go to a WR or a RB...
Trent Richard vs Cincy
Kevin Ogletree vs Seattle
Michael Crabtree vs Detroit
You'll probably begin to notice a trend in my picks when it comes down to flex spots. Unless the WR is significantly better than a RB, I'm usually going to recommend that you start a RB, especially if they get the majority of the team's carries. Richardson didn't look good last week, however, Cleveland gave him nearly every carry despite his lack of success. I'll take my chances with a guy like Richardson, who will likely get 25 touches this week, over guys like Ogletree and even Crabtree. Crabtree should have a decent week, but I'm still going with the RB. I honestly have no idea what to expect from Ogletree this week, or even this year. But right now he's the #3 WR in Dallas and I'm not sure if there's enough looks to go around week in and week out especially as Witten gets healthy.
Week 2
Reggie Wayne (vs MIN) vs Kenny Britt (@ SD)- PPR
This one is easy, Reggie Wayne. With 18 targets last week you have to play him over a guy that is a huge question mark. As Len already mentioned, Britt is going to be limited this week. But then again, Peterson was supposed to be too last week and we all saw how that turned out. Regardless, Wayne is the sure pick here.
Cam Newton vs New Orleans or Matt Stafford vs. 49ers
Also, choose 3 receivers of the group:
Calvin Johnson vs 49ers
Andre Johnson vs Jaguars
Reggie Wayne vs. Vikings
Wes Welker vs. Cardinals
AJ Green vs. Browns
Mike Wallace vs. Jets
I'd go with Cam Newton. I'm expecting a shootout in this game and Cam will be playing with a chip on his shoulder after last week. Stafford may be playing with a chip on his shoulder as well, however, he's also going up against the best defense in the NFC and maybe the league.
As for your receivers... first, how the hell did you end up with those six guys? Are you playing in a 4 team league? All of them could be #1 or #2 receivers in most leagues. Not making these official picks for the week due to the variety of options, but the Johnson's have to be for sure starts. The third spot for me comes down to AJ Green vs Reggie Wayne. If you want to take more of a risk go with Green because I think his upside is huge this week against Cleveland. If you're looking for consistency, but less of an upside, go with Wayne.
Week 2:
Kevin Smith @ SF
Alfred Morris @ STL
Lance Moore @ Carolina
Pick 1. I know you said you wanted 1 v 1 but IDGAF. Pick 1, hot shot.
Let me start by saying that I absolutely hate Mike Shannahan running backs. I've been avoiding them like the plague since Terrell Davis. The likes of Mike Anderson, Orlandis Gary, Clinton Portis, Mike Bell, etc. continue to give me nightmares. However, with that being said, my pick is Alfred Morris. The Rams defense looked much better last week, however, the Rams defense has been horrible against the run basically every year since 1999 and I don't see that changing this year. Kevin Smith is a good option too because even though he's going against a tough SF defense, he can also catch the ball. I give the edge to Morris though because of his opponent. Lance Moore scares me for a couple reasons. One, in seasons past it seems like Colston, and now Graham, are the only sure things in the Saints passing game. Guys like Lance Moore, Devery Henderson, and previously Robert Meachem always seemed to rotate good weeks. With Lance Moore healthier than years past and Meachem in SD, maybe things will be different this year. However, I still need to see a few more solid weeks from Lance Moore before starting him over a solid RB matchup. I don't feel great about picking Morris here because Shannahan is so unpredictable, but I'm sticking with him this week.
