No doubt he did...BUT...there will always be the question as to what role his steroid use had in his performance. We'll never know.

Well, Anderson has never tested positive so I don't look at that fight like I did on August 8th, 2010.

Don't forget that Sonnen was (and I assume still is) cleared to take steroids, so we shouldn't take anything away from him.

As far as his trash talk goes, I think the guy is hilarious, but unfortunately it's a bit hollow. He let Wand punk him and the Lance Armstrong stuff wasn't right and completely uncalled for, then he didn't even own up to it either.

Sonnen was not cleared for the Silva fight. He never told the commission and then lied about it after the fact (which is why the commission was pissed off at him).

I may be mixed on what/when, but here's Meltzer's piece when the real estate scandal broke, about the steroid hearing:

Sonnen’s one-year suspension for testing positive for testosterone in the Silva fight, was reduced to six months at a hearing last month before the California State Athletic Commission after he successfully argued that he was using the steroids due to hypogonadism, a medical affliction to where his body was not producing adequate amounts of testosterone, ends next month.

But during the hearing, he claimed to have cleared his testosterone replacement use in Nevada for recent fights in conversations with Keith Kizer, claiming at the hearing he spoke to Kizer. Kizer has denied ever speaking to Sonnen, nor clearing him for testosterone replacement, and this was going to make it far from a guarantee that Sonnen, whose Nevada license expired at the end of the year, would get licensed this year. Nevada requires TUF coaches to get seconds licenses.
