Charles Rogers in jail- threatens to kill mother

With two of the Detroit Lions’ top picks from a season ago facing potential discipline from the NFL for multiple arrests this offseason, it can’t go unnoticed that one of the organization’s all-time draft busts is behind bars.

Charles Rogers, the second overall pick in the 2003 draft and a former star at Michigan State, turned himself in Tuesday, days after a bench warrant for his arrest was issued. According to WNEM, Rogers has threatened to kill his own mother over a $100,000 loan.

He has also been cited recently for marijuana and alcohol offenses, but the main charge is a malicious phone call in March when the threat was allegedly made.

It is a sad tale for the 31-year-old Rogers and one the Lions hope can serve as a cautionary tale. Defensive tackle Nick Fairley and running back Mikel Leshoure could be suspended by the NFL for their drug- and booze-related arrests. In fact, team president Tom Lewand says it is likely. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Lewand said the NFL is reviewing the incidents involving Fairley and Leshoure.

“ We can’t suspend them, that’s part of the CBA, that’s part of the restrictions that we operate under,” Lewand said. “Obviously that discipline falls under the commissioner’s purview. And suspensions are certainly something that could be a possibility and I would say are likely if you look at similar types of incidences on other teams.

“But typically what the commissioner likes to do is see it play out in the legal process, see the matter is adjudicated because we can’t lose sight of the fact, and I’m not making excuses for anybody, trust me, but the reason the commissioner lets the legal process play out is because of the time-honored tradition of innocent until proven guilty.”

C-Rog was doing tons of drugs back at MSU, a lot of the team was. My friend actually did lines with Jeff Smoker (his QB at MSU) back in college. Not to mention the guy had like 5 kids before he even got to the NFL. He was bust waiting to happen.

Sigh, imagine if Millen had drafted Andre Johnson instead.

Well Millen was pretty retarded....Charles Rogers...Roy Williams....Mike Williams...he picked the wrong last names. Should have been Johnson & Johnson.

If C-Rog hadn't been such a injury plagued bust for the Lions, we probably wouldn't have wasted picks on Mike and Roy Williams. We could have returned to even average a hell of a lot sooner if not for our long line of misses in the draft.
