Clippers Trade Z-Bo for QRich

Clearing the way for No. 1 pick Blake Griffin, the Clippers have agreed to trade power forward Zach Randolph to Memphis for former Clipper Quentin Richardson, The Times learned today.

Because of salary-cap rules, the deal can't be completed until next week.

A Clippers spokesman said the team would have no comment on the report.

Randolph played 39 games for the Clippers last season after being acquired from New York, averaging 20.9 points and 9.4 rebounds, both team highs.

He was a core member of the team, right up until the Clippers won the lottery that enabled them to draft Griffin, considered one of the top power forward prospects in recent years.

Beyond that, the Clippers are intent on turning up the pace, which didn't fit Randolph, a half-court low-post player, but is perfect for the speedy Griffin.

It also works for the Clippers' bottom line, and their salary cap. With Richardson under contract for only this season, the deal gets them out from under Randolph's contract, which has two seasons, worth $33.3 million left on it.

This will have the effect of putting the Clippers far under the salary cap after the upcoming season, which may make them major players for the big 2010 free agent class.

Zach Randolph punching Amundson's teeth out and then trying to call him gay. Yeah... Randolph was really great for L.A.

This is the best thing to happen to the Clippers... to finally get that cancer out of there.

Other than Thabeet the Grizzlies have zero defense, especially now. They are fucking stacked now offensively though, hopefully they can just hope to outscore opponents for around 30 wins this season.

Well Rudy Gay is one of the best defensive SFs out there, but other than those 2, they really have no1 else.

We were a middle of the road defensive team last year, and this trade didn't affect that much. It was Q-Rich for Z-Bo. Or Darko for Z-Bo, but Darko didn't do much last year.

We have pretty much the same group of players that had the Grizzlies around the middle of the pack defensively last year, but we've added Thabeet, Sam Young, and DeMarre Carroll who are all known for their defense and hustle.

We're moving in the right direction. Thank God!

Most people just look at blocks and steals when judging defense. Rudy puts up good defensive stats, but he's an average defender at best.

Is he talented? Yes. Is he a good player? Well that all depends on the day. People like to look at highlights and see Z-Bo doing something stupid and act as if he does that all the time. He'll do the occasional dumb ass thing, but for the most part he's a good contributor and a guy who can get you 20 and 12 every night.

For a team like the Grizzlies, he's a guy we need right now. We don't have a legit post scorer, and after adding rebounding and defense through the draft, Z-Bo's offense is something we could use down low.

I like the move. I'd rate it a 7/10, but I'm mostly excited about the direction of the Grizzlies. For the first time in years it looks like we are moving forward.

I think Q was about 2 years past contributing anything so i happy about the move, Randolph isnt the ideal player but he adds more than Darko or Q IMO

Yea, but I think Q-Rich could have been an above average scorer off the bench. Still, we got Randolph for Q-Rich so I'm happy.

Im so excited about this trade. Good ridence. ZBO was horrible in the locker room. Bad chemistry everywhere eh goes. Looks like it will be rubbing off on the Memphis young squad. The Clippers get a good expiring guard/forward in Q, who was my favorite player when he was with the Clippers.
