Post them all here. Cliff notes, the accelerated compliance buyout takes a full cap hit this season, but none in the future. The two obvious ones were already put onto waivers.

With the new accelerated compliance buyout in mind, the New York Rangers placed defenceman Wade Redden on unconditional waivers on Wednesday for the purpose of buying him out.

Redden has played the last two seasons with the Connecticut Whale of the AHL but according to his agent Don Meehan, he would prefer to be playing in the NHL.

"Yes, (he) is anxious to resume play in the NHL," said Meehan on TSN Radio 1050's Cybulski and Company. "If the opportunity affords itself he'd very much like that."

The new policy adopted on Tuesday allows teams to buy out one player with at least a $3 million average salary and incur a full cap hit this season, but no cap hit in the future.

If Redden clears waivers on Thursday at Noon et, the Rangers will exercise their one accelerated compliance buyout.

One day after the NHL and NHL Players' Association reached an agreement on an accelerated compliance buyout, the Montreal Canadiens placed Scott Gomez on unconditional waivers on Wednesday.

Should he clear waivers on Thursday at Noon et, Montreal will be able to buy him out.

Last weekend, the Canadiens told Gomez to stay home until he can be bought out in the summer in order to clear $7.3 million in salary cap space for next season.

The Canadiens did not want Gomez to play this season in case he suffered an injury that would not allow the team to complete the buyout.

"With where the cap is going to be next year, we had to buy out Scott's contract and the safest way to do that without risking him being injured was to send him home," said Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin on the weekend. "It's the rules we have to play by."

However, with the new buyout policy, teams can use up one buyout on one player with at least a $3 million average salary this season and incur a full cap hit, less the $900,000 for not burying him player in the minors, but suffer no cap hit next season or beyond.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Tim Connolly was not on the ice at practice on Thursday and it's expected the veteran forward will be placed on waivers.

Should Connolly clear waivers, he could be bought out of the final year of his contract which carries a cap hit of $4.75 million this season.

According to a new agreement between the NHLPA and the NHL, teams can use one of their two compliance buyouts on a player with at least a $3 million in average salary this season and incur a full cap hit, but suffer no cap hit next season or beyond.

Last season, the 31-year-old played in 70 games with the Leafs, recording 13 goals and 23 assists.

They have the cap space, couldn't trade him and he's on waivers first so someone looking for a center might grab him if they think other teams will go after him.

Long story short its Kadri/Colborne time and they are clearing house for it.

Komisarek, Steckle, Orr and even John Michael Liles (although he might get traded) are probable next people out. In Komisareks place he might be a buyout next offseason.

Yeah I don't understand this. I know Kandri needs to be in but at the sake losing one of your buyouts and not having any affect on this year, doesn't make sense. Just throw him in the minors and take the same cap hit w/o losing a buyout.

Leafs really don't have any other contracts outside of Komi thats really terrible so using 1 of the 2 buyouts for basically an open spot on the roster is worth it. They also are crowded in the AHL and didn't want him to take up a spot down there. Like I said earlier they have the cap space and want to have kadri play his final year of his first contract out in the NHL.

The Burke Era is approaching with the draft picks. You see teams like Buffalo and Montreal picking up of toughness and grit to try and compete with Boston, New York, Philly ect ect and they threw some pretty hefty contracts at people. Toronto has an insane amount of asshole players coming up and thats all Burke era drafting. Leo Komarov is going to be a name everyone will know by the end of this season and its not because he's going to score 30 goals. (he wasn't a burke pick but burke never released his rights)

A lot of the UFA's Burke picked up were always in desperation. Connolly was signed because Richards went to the rangers. Komisarek and Orr were responses to the team needing toughness. He never could sign that big name free agent outside of the NCAAers and Euro's. His unwillingness to bend the cap rules really hurt the leafs and his willingness to spend to the cap just because he could instead of spending wisely also hurt them.

Keith Aucoin was the AHL teams top scorer. The Marlies are basically on their way to attempting to goto the finals again and he would of been a big part of it. The marlies in the playoffs ended up in a lot of extra revenue last season so I'm sure they weren't affraid to spend a bit more to help them out.

Reddens been bought out fully now and he's looking at his options in where to go.

It is just a numbers game really. Who else are the leafs going to use their two buyouts on. You get two between now and next year, and they have to be over $3 million cap hit. So when you look at the leafs team over that cap hit, you get Grabovski, Kessel, Lupul, Van Riemsdyk, MacArthur, Phaneuf, Liles, Komisarek and Connolly. The last two are the worse money for their production and the only two remotely worthwhile to buyout now. You wont buy out any of the others, and unless you decide to offer someone a huge contract then buy them out, you might as well clear them out now.

Connolly was a failed attempt to create a cheap Brad Richards, but his injuries and production didn't make it worth it. The leafs needed to clear space because Kadri and Colborne needed to come up and get big club minutes. Now the leaf pivot spots are Grabovski, Bozak, Kadri, Colborne and Steckle. I would love to see Toronto's lines look something like

Lupul - Kadri - Kessel - Main scoring line
Van Riemsdyk - Colborne - Kulemin - BIG second line. Would be tough to battle against this line
MacAruthur - Grabovski - someone

Most likely the Colborne line becomes your line 3 type line, but with this sort of team mix up, line 2-3 are interchangeable.

I'll gladly take Steckel back in Washington. He can play on the wing as well, and I think he's too valuable as a bottom six forward with grit and flexibility.
