Cowboys release DeMarcus Ware

Dallas was close to the cap, but I didn't think they would cut the leader of their defense. I know he had a down year, but some of that had to do with the transition to a 4-3 end, instead of a standup LB in the 3-4.

A team running a 3-4 who need a boost to the pass rush will be all over Ware. I doubt he is out of work for long.

Fair enough, I forgot about him, probably because he's struggled to be on the field (seriously, not a troll attempt.) Ware will still be missed, but he was mis-cast in the 4-3 for sure.

Absolutely. Lee can't stay healthy but Ware couldn't either the last 2 seasons. I wish he didn't get released though.

I'm already preparing myself for him to go to Philly or NY and :suicide: it will be.

I just want him out of the division, but I will miss watching him and Trent Williams battle so far as competitiveness goes.

The only pass rusher Dallas has had in the last 18 years post Haley.
If this was Pitt or Bal Id say oh well just find another one. But few teams have a harder time finding pass rushers than the Boys during the Jones era.

Ware looked past his prime for 2 years and was never a big play big game guy anyway. Sean Lee when healthy always had far more impact than Ware ever did. With or without Ware Cowboys havent been able to get sacks let alone timely ones in a long time. Considering this was a flat out release and not a trade it also means one less pick to spend on a need area , now theres even less chance of fielding a decent defense.

Im sure he can go somewhere and make a big impact. No reason why he cant put up a 10+ sack season or even be a monster as a situational pass rusher.

Thought about the cutting of Ware overnight and I came up with a few things.

1) Jerry had to make an incredibly tough decision and since Ware wouldn't take a paycut, he had to cut him. He was actually behaving like a competent GM on this one. Now, I fully expect him to screw it up in the future but for this one day he did the right thing.

2) Jerry didn't have to cut Ware prior to 4pm yesterday. He could have held onto him, let the other teams spend their money and then, when there was no market for Ware, force him to take a paycut. But he didn't. An owner actually showed compassion (right word?) for a loyal player. Kudos to him.

3) Ware shouldn't have felt compelled to take a paycut. No problem with that. Like Jerry and the Cowboys, Ware did what he had to do. After all it's a business first and foremost. I wish him nothing but the best and hope he gets a ring, he deserves it.

It was probably the loyalty factor for Jones. Give him credit on that one.

I agree that this was the right move on both ends. I'm surprised Jones made the right move. Like you said, he will probably screw it up somehow, but maybe he's turning the corner and looking to make the smart moves and not the flashy moves.
