The good news for the Jets was that they beat the Dolphins 23-20 in overtime.

The bad news is just about everything else. The offense was ghastly for the vast majority of the game and the best player on the defense, cornerback Darrelle Revis, left early with a knee injury. Coach Rex Ryan said at his postgame press conference that the team will be sending him for an MRI on Monday when they are back in New York. Revis was injured when he was planting his left knee during a Daniel Thomas run in the third quarter of the Jets’ win.

As with most non-contact injuries of this type, the fear is that Revis has suffered ligament damage. The specific Jets fear is an ACL injury and you all likely know what such a diagnosis can mean for Revis’ availability the rest of the way for the Jets. They won’t know whether it’s torn without more tests, however, so Monday will bring news of great import for the Jets season.

The Jets defense held up well enough to win the game without Revis in the lineup, but that won’t work against teams with more potent passing attacks. Both Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson picked up pass interference penalties during the game and Cromartie got beaten badly by Brian Hartline on a long gain that set up Dan Carpenter’s 48-yard try to win the game in overtime.

He missed and the Jets wound up the winners on the field. Revis’ MRI could wind up leaving things with a different conclusion.

That would hurt their chances this year without a doubt. Nearly losing to the Dolphins as is, they can't afford to lose their best defensive player for the season. They better hope it's not as bad as it at least initially looks like it possibly could be.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Star cornerback Darrelle Revis tore the ACL in his left knee and will require season-ending surgery, New York Jets coach Rex Ryan announced Monday.

Revis underwent an MRI exam Monday morning, confirming the team's worst fears. Their All-Pro was hurt in the third quarter of Sunday's overtime win over the Miami Dolphins, a non-contact injury that occurred when he was trying to tackle running back Daniel Thomas on a screen pass.

It's a crushing blow to the Jets' defense, which already is off to a slow start. They're ranked 21st in yards allowed.

Just End The Season.

There goes any real hope of a playoff run. Hes the only elite player on that team and only thing tipping scales in there favor. Unless Sanchez and Tebow have been playing a hoax on us that offense will keep them in mediocrity.

I guess thats what happens when you dont bother getting real pass rushers or running backs in a Defensive minded ball control system..smh.

What you don't believe in Maybin??

We have some pass rushers on here, it's just we have a different system but it's time to make a change. In the wings we have Davis, Coples, MAybin...these guys gonna have to get fed to the wolves...we need more speed, we need more of a pass rush...Coples has what it takes. Davis is a blazer. We need to get the athletes on the field now.
 
Tough loss for the Jets. Kyle Wilson will now be the guy that has to step up and play a major role for the Jets' defense to have success. He's very talented, and very well could step into Revis' shoes, but it's a BIG loss to a team that has already been struggling a bit.

The Jets need as of September 23rd are the same needs as of Week 17 of last year. They drafted boom or bust guys and have done a strange job of both not addressing there needs , and not padding there strengths the last two off seasons. Youd fully expect after there success for the Jets to be filled a stable of runners and a front or back 7 full of playmakers. They have none and even the once on the rise Oline is meh.

As you can see in Dal the Ryan defense isnt like some other 3-4 defenses , it really needs ace players on every level to succeed.I thought Sporano would be far more creative with this offense. Im assuming Sanchez' fragility has something to do with so little Tebow Time.
 
Logan Mankins probably laughing at this one.

The loss of Revis really hurts the Jets. He's a game changer for them, and now they've got to change how they play moreso than just about any other team.
